Member Irwin: So will the Premier today, once and for all, be a leader for all Albertans and denounce separatism? And let’s have the Premier answer.

Mr. Schow: The Premier has said time and again that we believe in a strong Alberta within a united Canada because we know that a strong Canada needs a strong, prosperous Alberta, the same Alberta that’s created over 100,000 jobs year over year, the same Alberta that continues to put billions and billions of dollars to support the rest of the country so that all provinces have equal social services like education and health care. We’re also the only Legislature that has all flags of all the provinces in our Chamber. We believe in supporting a strong Canada, but Canada needs to support a strong Alberta.

New Democrat MLA Irwin's Edmonton office vandalized

Vandalism has been removed from an Alberta's Opposition member's riding office after it was tagged sometime overnight Friday.

Janis Irwin, a New Democrat member of legislative assembly, posted an image of her Edmonton office to Twitter on Saturday morning showing the vandalism.

The image's caption reads, "Good morning to everyone who continues to denounce racism and white supremacy, no matter how angry or uncomfortable it makes some people"

The markings were cleared off by late Saturday morning. Police say they have been in contact with Irwin.

She declined to comment on the vandalism but issued a statement thanking those who showed their support.

"This act of vandalism has left me sad and angry,  but it needs to be said: this is just a fraction of what racialized folks and members of the LGBTQ2S+ community face every day," she wrote.

Member Irwin: Over the past few months I’ve spent my days talking to Albertans in all corners of this province. I’ve asked them: what are your priorities? What do you want to see from your provincial government? Overwhelmingly they’ve been clear: addressing the crisis in health care, supporting public education, and acting on the skyrocketing costs of living. So why instead of making positive change, instead of bringing us together and fighting for better, why is this Premier spending time and money attacking immigrants and all that it means to be proud Canadians?

Mr. Schow: Mr. Speaker, what a disgusting thing to say. Suggesting that the Premier is attacking immigrants might be the lowest of the low kinds of comments to be made in this Chamber.

Ms Chapman: This isn’t an issue for Alberta, but I thought it was interesting, which is why I noted it down. At two degrees warming more than 70 per cent of Earth’s coastline will see sea levels rise by .2 metres. When you think about .2 metres – I still think in feet. Huh. What is that, like, two-thirds of a foot?

Member Irwin: Dude, you’re asking the wrong guy. Ask the doctor.

Ms Chapman: You were the teacher, though. Okay. Anyways, it seems like a small number, but in terms of the impact it can have on coastal flooding, beach erosion, and salinization of the water supply – and that’s one of the big risks. Did you secretly do the math there and then just not tell me?
