jankie as an established couple who are both interested in nicky, but jan can't contain her excitement at the thought of getting to see nicky more often. jackie's like "hey, would you be interested in coming over for dinner? jan wanted to try a new recipe" and jan's like "do you have any food allergies? what's your favorite dessert? do you want to stay and watch a movie with us?"

luckily nicky is endeared by both jackie's warmth and jan's enthusiasm. she comes for dinner and stays for the movie, but she isn't complaining when one movie turns to talking and talking turns to more...

“You know she’s going to want all of them, right?” Jackie warned as they walked into the shelter. “Like, this is going to be a whole thing.”

“She can make it into as much of a thing as she wants. The apartment still has a one pet policy and I am not about to lose our security deposit,” Nicky retorted. Despite the sternness in her tone, she couldn’t help but smile fondly as she watched Jan patter around the shelter, cooing at all of the dogs.

Jan toddled back to her girlfriends after a couple minutes. “Why aren’t you guys looking around? Aren’t these babies so cute?”

Jackie chuckled softly and pressed a kiss to her temple. “We will, but you’re the one that’s been begging for a dog, so at the end of the day it’ll be the one that you want.” After a moment, she made sure to add, “emphasis on one.”

She huffed and waved her off. “Yeah, yeah you gave me the whole spiel already.” And with that, she was off, going from one dog to the next and cooing at each of them.

“We’re going to be here until closing,” Nicky muttered.

Luckily for her and Jackie, it’d only taken Jan about fifteen minutes before she’d decided on a dog. “Listen, I know we said just the one but she’s clearly friends with–”

“No,” they answered in unison.

Despite her pouting and huffing, Jan acquiesced and focused on the one dog that drew her in the most. She sat and played with her while Jackie filled out the paperwork, as happy as can be.

“I suppose it’s worth it,” Nicky mused, “seeing her like that.”

Jackie chuckled as she finished up the forms. “We’ll see if you still feel that way when it’s your turn to clean up after it on walks.”

Nicky rolled her eyes. “I finally got on board with this, don’t make me change my mind.”

I’m a sucker for a soulmate AU so I’m proposing Jan, Jackie, Nicky soulmate AU where the world is black and white until they see color. Two of them meet and they both see color, so there soulmates, but they end up colorblind bc they have a third they need to find

“I’ve gone through more google articles than I ever have before. But I think I cracked the code,” Jan said, motioning for Nicky to come join her. When they had met, they were able to see some colors, but something was still missing, and neither knew why.

“What is it then?” Nicky asked.

“We have a third soulmate.”

The knowledge put their minds at ease, but now they were stuck, confused. Who was their third soulmate? How long would it take to find her?

The answer came to them much sooner than they expected, in the form of their new neighbor, Jackie. The couple had invited her over to be the good neighbors they tried to be, and it hit them all suddenly and intensely.

“It’s her,” Jan breathed out, heart jumping into her throat. “It’s Jackie.”

Jackie was still trying to process this as well. “You’re… both my soulmates?” She blinked in surprise when the other two nodded, then grinned. “I mean… I really lucked out then.”

All of the tension in the room melted away in that moment. The mystery was solved, and now they had a brand new future to look forward to.

“Listen, I’m just saying it would make more sense for us to find a new apartment instead of all trying to cram into one of ours,” Nicky insisted.

Jan pouted. “I hate apartment hunting. Can’t we just rearrange stuff here?” she whined.

Nicky arched her brow. “Like how?”

She shrugged. “We’ll figure it out.”

Jackie sighed, knowing it was time for her to step in and play mediator. “Okay, how about this? We’ll try moving into one of our apartments together, see how it feels for a month, and if we decide we need something bigger after that, we can go hunting.”

Jan and Nicky looked at each other hesitantly. Neither of them wanted to be the first to admit that everything Jackie said made perfect sense. After a moment, they both sighed and answered, “fine.”

“Good,” Jackie grinned. “Now, I think we should move into Jan’s because it’s the biggest and the most conveniently located.”

“Should I get a new bed?”

Nicky shook her head. “We’ve all slept in it before,” she reminded her, “there is enough room for both of us.” She strummed her fingers against the table as she thought. “Fuck, we’re gonna have to do so much moving.”

“Well, it’ll be a group effort, that’ll make it go that much faster,” Jackie offered.

“God, if you were any more annoyingly positive, you would be Jan,” Nicky joked.

Jan rolled her eyes. “Eat me.”

Nicky grinned and kissed her cheek. “Later, my love,” she cooed.

“There we go,” Jackie encouraged. “You two need to kiss and make up.”

Despite her best efforts not to, Jan giggled. “Okay, okay,” she leaned towards Nicky and puckered her lips.

But Nicky being Nicky wasn’t going to settle for a close-mouthed smooch. She cupped Jan’s face and kissed her deeply, slipping her tongue past her lips and moving a hand to grab onto her ponytail for support.

“Oh, so now you want to listen to me,” Jackie laughed.

“Watch it,” Nicky warned, “you’re next.”

After several months, everyone knew about the babies, but no one had actually seen them in person. Jan, Nicky, and Jackie had to be very careful with who got that information, it had the potential to be nothing short of catastrophic.

But after a while, the girls decided that they could trust their closest friends to meet the babies. So, they decided to throw a birthday party. They were rapidly approaching the one year mark since they accidentally became moms, and thought they might as well celebrate the occasion.

The house was decorated in cutesy space-themed birthday decor. The food, the table settings, everything was tailored to the theme. It was essentially a pinterest mom’s wet dream, and they were all rather proud of themselves.

“Wow, you guys really went all out for this,” Gigi remarked as she and Crystal walked inside and looked around. “Where’d you find the time?”

“Jackie’s really good at delegating tasks, and she loves adhering to schedules more than she loves us,” Jan laughed.

“Hey!” Jackie huffed playfully. “That’s barely true. Anyway, you ready to meet the kids?”

“I have never been more ready for anything in my life,” Crystal nodded eagerly.

Jan gestured for the couple to follow her. “They’re outside with Nicky, come on. Jackie’s gonna wait out here for Jaida and Heidi,” she explained as she led them out to the backyard. “Are they ready for company?”

Nicky looked up and nodded. She was sitting in the grass with one of the babies on her lap.

Gigi and Crystal carefully approached, neither wanting to startle the babies - lest they have some sort of fight or flight reaction that hurt someone. “How do you tell them apart?” Crystal asked as they sat down.

“Primary colors,” Nicky explained. “Janice is blue, Nicolette is red, and Jackson is yellow,” she explained. “The bright colors also makes them much harder to lose.”

“How do you lose an alien baby?” Gigi asked.

Jan chuckled as she sat with the rest of them. “You don’t, because they’re so perfectly coordinated,” she hummed.

Crystal watched as one of the babies crawled onto her lap and seemed to just contentedly sit there. “And they recognize all of you as parents?”

“Jackie says they’re like ducks,” Nicky told her. “They imprinted on us so we’re basically stuck with them.”

“And you guys are okay with that?”

Jan smiled softly as she watched the babies coo and play happily. “Amazingly, we’re more than okay.”
