Experimental Animation

Artist Research - Jan Svankmajer Looking over Jan Svankmajer's work in my opinion; is not my favourite. His works are very interesting, yes- however, it's not an approach I would be taking, however His work features chaotic stop motion in a sense that there is a lot going on which captures the viewer's attention as they cannot blink for a second or they may miss a detail. The theme in most of his works (clay-motion, puppets, time-lapse, 2D animations, pixilation, Sound-design etc.) really compliments with each other, despite his limitations regarding past machines and computer aided functions. The movement of every object in the scene in stop motion was very smooth which I liked a lot. His art was not 'choppy' which in contrast to other stop motion animations, is much more pleasing to the eyes.

In my opinion, I did enjoy his animation 'Meat Love' which was pretty funny and very creative, creating movement and life in an inanimate object in a nonsensical comedic way. I also liked his other work 'Jabberwocky / Moonglow' which was visually more pleasing, though it lacked the life in his stop motion clay pieces as this stop motion seemed much more mild and tame compared to the more wild visual piece 'Passionate Discourse'.

I want my objects in my scenes to work together in the same way, to have more life, rather than objects just moving with music in the background.
