The only clothes I buy now are workout clothes.
I saw it!
My veins are finally starting to pop out again like before. That's when you know you're working! I'm excited.

About Me: Jonathan "Janten" Wang
Hey, I’m currently 20 years old and attend West Coast University majoring in Nursing. I reside in Walnut, so you may have seen me if you work out @ the 24 Hour Fitness on Grand and Valley.
I have been physically active on and off since I was a Sophmore in High school.
Before I get into my lifestory (cool story brah), as a Sophmore I was 5 foot 11 inches in height at 185 lbs. Keep in mind I’ve never done any weight lifting, failed miserably in physical education fitness tests, barely did pushups or situps, etc. I would guestimate my lean body mass was around 110~120 lbs at that time, with 70ish lbs of fat. I was not happy with my body at all.
I first started at LA Fitness on Golden Springs, I wasn’t sure of what I was doing. I guess you could have called me a newbie. I took weight training in high school but that didn’t really help much as we didn’t do much. All I did was chest press and arm curls. I didn’t know anything else. Legs, back, shoulders, abs were foreign to me.
I also took up running at this time, at first I was struggling with 15 minute mile runs on the treadmill, then I gradually decreased the time to 9 minute per mile. I also ate a little less, smaller portions.
By the end of my Sophmore year, I took a good look at myself and other people around me at the gym. I knew something was wrong, I had a big chest and arms but everything else was puny. How embarassing. During the summer of Sophmore to Junior year, I researched online about how to lift, I didn’t care about nutrition yet at this point; however, at this point in time I also took off a good three months off from the gym. Why? The main culprit was because I was into gaming.
After the gaming faded out of my life, I started working hard again. I took weight lifting again in Junior year with my friends. I started lifting properly and by the time max rep exercises came around at our weightlifting class, I was able to max 285 on the Bench which put me up on the board as the highest in body weight to bench weight ratio. I was 170lbs at the time, maxing 115 lbs over my body weight. I eventually maxed my benching at 315, but at the cost of putting on 10 more pounds putting me at 180 lbs; however, my leg press maxes were still struggling, with just a mere 265 max single rep, you could say I had chicken legs!
Anyway, I kept working hard to maintain my body, and come senior year to sophmore year of College is when I started caring more about nutrition and macronutrients and everything, because I wanted to be ripped and have my abs pierce my fat. This is when I started to eat a lot of chicken breasts to cut down (best lean protein around in my opinion, besides turkey); however, it gets bland pretty fast. I dropped 15 lbs FAST, probably within a matter of two weeks, extremely unhealthy and I wouldn’t recommend it(it being I only really ingested a good 900 calories a day) but I was keeping my lifting at the same weights. In no time I hit 165 lbs in body weight, but I still couldn’t see my muscle. I gave up again and took a break. I was also playing MW2 at this time..:)
This is getting too long. Anyway, I’ll skip the inbetween stuff. Where my bestfriend Zee and I befriended a few other people, and we started coming to the gym in packs of 6-8. Talk about wolfpack status. We would work out, then eat out. What a waste! It would literally be work out at night every day, then go to Denny’s or Applebee’s or something. Needless to say I gained a lot of weight, but I also kept a good bench, repping 4 sets of 16 of bench pressing @ 225lbs.
Fast forward to recently, around June, a month just after I met my lovely girlfriend Ara. She introduced me to Zumba, I didn’t really like it at first and I thought honestly it just didn’t fit for guys, and it was embarrassing sitting in there not knowing the moves and techniques. So after learning the techniques at home with her, I started getting into it because it was a fun way to do cardio, nothing boring like elliptical or running.
But even then at this point, we were still gaining our love chub still because we ate more calories than we expended. We ate out almost 3-5 times a week! A lot of it was buffets! Anyway, within the first 8 or 9 months or so of being with her, I’ve gained a good 40 lbs. I was pregnant! I was nearing 220, my last highest weigh in was at 217, and that’s when I’ve decided I’ve had enough.
Since February 4, 2012 to today (March 22, 2012) I have lost 12 lbs already, weighing in at 205 lbs.
This blog will be to help record our workouts and help motivate other people into getting in shape. We are determined in getting fit.
