the thing that frustrates me is that people trying to decry m4a or universal healthcare in general keep citing europe and canadian systems of the patient not paying anything and the government footing the bill
but like… in japan and taiwan they have the patient pay part of the bill. it’s heavily subsidised so you only pay like 1000 yen or 300 NTD (about 10 USD) for a visit. drugs are also cheap and there’s usually a pharmacy right next to the clinic where you can pick up the prescription. the whole thing becomes totally covered once you hit a certain age (i want to say 70s?)
like why not even that, if you hate the idea of people having things for free? why not even just significantly reducing the amount of money you need to pay just to access care?? why not take out the profit motive???
