Saturday Splurge 2: April in Paris
Sometimes you just want to get away. You want to drop everything, pack your ideal capsule wardrobe and head to the airport/train station/hedge at the bottom of the road (it satisfied the urge aged 7, but I'm not sure it would quite cut it these days.)
It's the week before Scottish students get their money, so I'm feeling even more broke than ever, but if I got the chance to splurge this week, this time it wouldn't be on something to brighten up the flat superficially. As much as a china milk jug would entertain me, it's a shame I wouldn't stick around long enough to make use of it. Instead, I'd leave altogether and jet off to Paris, mainly because it's wonderful but also because April in Paris is a rather lovely Doris Day movie.
Once there, I would absolutely stay in the Hotel Costes, one of those gleaming big boutique hotels that all the fashionable with money stay in. It's so glamorous, I've heard the design brief was "all things in excess" - now if that doesn't say splurge, I don't know what does. They even release their own lounge music compilations, so you can jealously sit listening to it and just imagine you're there. Which is what I will continue to do until I am sitting next to that pool dagnabbit!
