The Music of Jared Field

During season three of Pinpoints, I spoke with Jared Field, composer and educator. We talked a great deal about music and its ability to captivate and inspire.

Rachel: The Musical - Support the Arts!

Hello! Pinpoints’ most recent subject, Jared Field, discussed his involvement in Rachel: The Musical. He and his sister Jessie will be putting on a full production of the musical as part of the All Out Arts' 2015 Fresh Fruit Festival this July - but they need help to raise the necessary funds.

Pinpoints - Season Three (Jared Field teaser: City Year)

Jared Field is a musician and educator. I met Jared through City Year, but have been able to collaborate him on songs and at other workplaces. His perspective on the importance of openness to new sounds and new viewpoints powerfully reflects the spirit of Pinpoints.

City Year New Hampshire allowed Jared to break out of the obedience of his younger days. No longer able to rely on following a set plan, Jared dove into the challenge of improvising and doing all he could to make a difference for his students.

Pinpoints - Season Three (Jared Field teaser: Composition)

Jared Field is a musician and educator. I met Jared through City Year, but have been able to collaborate him on songs and at other workplaces. His perspective on the importance of openness to new sounds and new viewpoints powerfully reflects the spirit of Pinpoints.

Currently, Jared is a student at Teachers College at Columbia University. Intending to use his time at the college to strengthen his pedagogical skills, Jared soon found that his courses would shape and challenge his approach to music.

Pinpoints - Season Three (Jared Field teaser: Choosing Clarinet)

Jared Field is a musician and educator. I met Jared through City Year, but have been able to collaborate with him on songs and at other workplaces. His perspective on the importance of openness to new sounds and new viewpoints powerfully reflects the spirit of Pinpoints.

In this first teaser, Jared talks about picking up the instrument that would shape his musical thinking in a major way: the clarinet. After learning from a few teachers - and surprising some with his talent - Jared’s first instrument has become a part of him.
