Chargers release Jared Gaither
Michael Gehlken first reported it. Gaither pocketed 9 million dollars for 4 games played and will cost the Chargers around a 6 million dollar cap hit for this season. This is the part where a lot of writers would say "He's an elite talent when healthy" but that description isn't quite right for Gaither. He's an elite player when he wants to be. He's now had questionable seasons, injuries, and exits from 3 NFL teams. By the end of the 2012 season, teammates were openly questioning how hurt he really was, which almost never happens in professional sports. It's frustrating for fans and the organization to see a guy with such potential basically waste his prime. I'd hope that he figures out whatever injury, motivation, or other block he has in his way to become a player who stays on the field and gains the respect of his teammates, but there's ample evidence that he'll never become such a player.
