Democrats managed to stop Republicans from giving more money to ICE in the DHS budget
Did you know that?
Probably not because people would rather talk about what they think Democrats aren’t doing than what they are.
Luckily, you have me and I made a YouTube video (with a transcript for those who don’t wanna watch) all about that and three other stories!
Epic trolling from Congressman Huffman.
But I need to see if the Republicans thought he was serious. Hard to imagine that they didn’t.

I am old enough to remember how fun the bicentennial was. It was basically a year long party for History nerds, which my family all was.
They spent all this money refurbishing, expanding, and upgrading historical sites and museums. I am from Philly, which was a great place to be for it. My family went to so many things. There were all these extra field trips.
There were fairs and parades and special events. My school went all out with a historical reenactment fair and plays and things.
It was so much fun, you know? And it felt good.
They didn't go around sanitizing and rewriting history and dismantling exhibits like the Republicans are doing now.
They left in the slaves and truth about the personal behavior of the founding fathers. Again, I'm from Philly. Ben Franklin is big there. His house is there. There is a whole ass museum with inventions and these cool dioramas with dolls and stuff. Independence hall is there. They left in Ben Franklin's life long philandering and alcoholism late in life. They left in the slaves and the messy situation with his illegitimate loyalist son. I was too little at the time to understand all the sex bits, but they were still showing the film with it in as I got older.
I would rather love America enough to want to make it better instead of papering over the past and current problems in order to make is so much worse.
Instead of a nation wide year long party we get this piss dribble on the National Mall and propaganda trucks touring the South to tell lies about history and the censoring of colleges and museums and historical plagues.
Seriously, Our county fair here is so much bigger and better than the embarrassing mess on the national mall, and our State fair is exponentially better and those things are pure fun instead of boring ass nonsense with things like "a baptism tent" and dangerous stages that nearly kill musicians and guys trying to convince children that the only thing wrong with the witch trials was they weren't fascist enough. O.o Also, I'm pretty sure the Bicentennial didn't involve government officials embezzling and doing wire fraud. Allegedly, but the reporting sure lines up with everything we are seeing.

Over a dozen Democrats signed a letter advocating Palestinian statehood, and one plans to introduce a statehood resolution.
Andrew Solender at Axios:
More than a dozen House Democrats have now signed onto a letter urging the Trump administration to recognize a Palestinian state, and at least one plans to introduce a pro-statehood resolution, Axios has learned. Why it matters: The surge in efforts to secure Palestinian statehood is a byproduct of lawmakers' discomfort towards the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Even some Republicans and staunchly pro-Israel House Democrats have ramped up their criticism of Israeli leadership in recent weeks in response to mounting evidence of a famine in Gaza.
Driving the news: Reps. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine), Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.) and Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) are the latest members to have signed the letter, which is being led by Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), Axios has learned.
That's in addition to nine earlier signatories: Reps. Greg Casar (D-Texas), Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), Veronica Escobar (D-Texas), Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.), Al Green (D-Texas), Jared Huffman (D-Calif.), Mark Pocan (D-Wisc.) and Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.).
Rep. André Carson (D-Ind.), one of three Muslim American members of Congress, has also signed on, his spokesperson told Axios.
The letter was first reported by Jewish Insider.
Zoom in: "This tragic moment has highlighted for the world the long overdue need to recognize Palestinian self-determination," reads the letter to President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to a copy obtained by Axios.
[...]
Between the lines: The number of Democrats who have signed on so far is nearly triple the amount who co-sponsored a resolution introduced by Green in 2023 affirming the "State of Palestine's right to exist."
That measure was backed by just five of the members during the last Congress: Carson, Doggett, Escobar, Frost and Watson Coleman.
[...]
What they're saying: "The recognition would come by embracing the 22 state Arab League Plan just passed this week that calls for a Palestinian state and the recognition of Israel as a Jewish democratic state," Khanna said.
Noting that over 147 countries have recognized a Palestinian state, the California Democrat added: "We cannot be isolated from the rest of the free world."
Watson Coleman said in a statement: "If we're to see an end to war, famine, and the return of hostages, the recognition of a Palestinian state, contingent on the disarmament of Hamas and security guarantees for both Israel and Palestine, must be a part of that process."
Axios reports on a letter that at least a dozen House Democrats have signed on to.
The letter in question, led by Rep. Ro Khanna (D), urges the Trump Administration to recognize the State of Palestine, similar to what the UK and Canada have done. 🇵🇸
