This Interview with Astronaut Randy Bresnik Gives an Idea About Photography in Space
This interview answers some of the questions we may have about snapping out in space.
This interview with astronaut Randy Bresnik most likely holds the answers to some of the most pressing questions we may have about photography out in space. Jared Polin, who runs the Fro Knows Photo website and YouTube channel, had just one question in mind: “Do astronauts on the space station shoot RAW?” From it came an idea to interview one of the astronauts up there. While he wasn’t successful…

DIGEST 9/15/2017
A Good Friday to you. Here’s some stuff I’ve found.
Jared Polin has some great advice for us.
Yesterday I mentioned on Instagram that I’d share with you my super-awesome Pomodoro Tool. It’s called Focus@Will, which gives me some Chill Music while I work. It’s a paid service, but I think it’s worth it.
Watching an anvil drop from 150 feet onto a pyramid of watermelons is oddly satisfying.
Two words: Mona Greasa
Yesterday was the seventh Anniversary of meeting two sisters that I didn’t know I had. Let that sink in for a second. We lost Terry a short time later to cancer, but Sue is still here, and moved down here to the area.
The sisters have been on my mind a bit lately since I went home to Maine again this summer, and had a chance to connect with other members of my extended family who I haven’t seen or heard from in years. Aunts and cousins who lived in Maine while my family was stationed all over the place in my youth. I’ve covered this before.
However, I think Terry was talking to me when a friend of mine, a photographer named Pete, showed some of his photos mounted on canvas. He had a photo of the pier at Little Island Beach, and the angle is…well, it’s damn near uncanny.
See, there’s a bench right about where Pete likely stood to take this photo. That bench is where Terry’s ashes were scattered.
So now, that canvas sits in my living room, because I pretty much needed it.
Happy Sisterversary, you two.
Stay in Flight
VIDEO: Fro Goes To Canon Burbank
Jared Polin from Fro Knows Photo recently made a trip to the Canon Burbank Repair Facility. I'm posting this for two reasons. One is because I really like Fro, he's entertaining and very educational for a guy like me who wants to learn to suck less taking photos.
The second reason? Well...
Meet Smoke of the Earth. She is the bolder of two very unusual, hateful and yet somehow exceptionally lovely and life-enriching rats. The other being Glennie Kindred, Smokie’s shy and stub-tailed peer (i’m sure she will make an appearance in later photos).
Eleanor (my heartstrings) and I recently purchased a Nikon D3300 and over the coming months aim to document our learning of photography for our future reference, as well as documenting the disgusting lives led by my pale and awful associates.
I find that Smoke of the Earth & Glennie Kindred are excellent subjects for learning photography as they are endlessly funny and stupid. If only their hateful little minds could tear themselves away from developing ways in which they can destroy my life, they would be able to see that they are capable of much more. Alas, it seems that they are as content with their spiteful lives and hatred of me as I am smug of their inability to comprehend beauty.
As a total photography noob (3 days in) I have found the following and other videos by Jared Polin extremely useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFbatsu-o1Q.
