In 1573 Paide (Weissenstein) was occupied by troops of russian tzar Ivan the Terrible, but during the occupation was killed his companion Malyuta Skuratov. After that, Ivan the Terrible ordered to fixed on the stakes all the living inhabitants of the city and to roast them alive. The execution lasted several days. After this, the tzar left the city and returned to Novgorod. He did not need a Paide
