Out of the woods || Samper

The good news was that Samantha was out of the infirmary and so was Jasper. The bad news was that meant she had to deal with her wounds herself and she’d been avoiding them at all costs.

After lengthy talks with her father she convinced him that the best place for her to be was with Jasper. Though he has major reservations with her being at his house after all that had happened. “Can you even trust this man Samantha?” he’d asked. To which Samantha had given him a lecture.

So Samantha packed a bag and moved in temporarily with Jasper. They needed each other, She didn’t realize just how intently Jasper meant to care for her, she was simply there on the deal that she was his resident carer.

Samantha tried her best not to associate what had happened too much with the space she sat in, as she plumped up his cushions. She wanted to block out those memories and replace them with loving ones of cuddling up before the fire in the middle of the night. Or tipsy cuddles after wonderful dates.

Samantha wanted to make memories to block out the bad ones.

My cure || Samantha and Jasper

Samantha had tried to ignore the sickness that was coming over her for the past week. She’d told herself that she was just tired, that it was just a little sniffle that would go. But that last two days had been hard to ignore. She’d come down with a terrible flu; her nostrils blocked, throat so sore she felt like she’d swallowed razors and a banging headache that only the strongest medication would cure.

Samantha had never been the person to take time off from work. When she was little she wasn’t the girl who pretended to be ill just to have a day with her toys at home. For this her mother had always trusted Samantha, when she said she was ill she was ill. Even then Sammy dragged herself in to school, feeling guilty if she missed anything. It was only when her friends told her to go home that she’d consider it.

Samantha hated being away from Thornewood because she knew that there were patients that might need her. But when getting to her feet meant going faint she knew she had no option. Coming towards the end of day two off work Sammy was feeling a little better. Drugged up on all the medication she could handle, she felt a little more human. But not much.

Her father, being useless as always, didn’t have a clue how to look after her. In the end Samantha had grown so annoyed by his fussing that she’d asked him to get out of the house. So he had taken food over to his girlfriends house and Samantha was curled up in front of the tv, in her baggiest pjs, enjoying quiet time.

Begin again || Jasper and Samantha

Perhaps weirdest of all was the way Samantha's father had reacted to the hostage situation. It wouldn't be abnormal on any other parents, but Samantha's father being overprotective was not something he often did. Samantha got along with her dad, but where they'd spent so many years apart they didn't have the closest relationship. They functioned separately and were there for each other when they needed to be. But something must have gone of in his head, because he seemed very worried about her. Maybe it brought back feelings of losing Samantha's mother. Yes, they weren't married at the time, but he had loved her once and Samantha knows that her death really affected him

So every time Samantha came home from work he was there to give her a big hug. It seemed like now when she left the house she needed to tell him again. Like she was fourteen. But she didn't mind, she understood. Samantha would rather he cared too much than not at all. So Samantha had prepared him for the fact that she was going to be going out on Wednesday night but that didn't stop his questions. Where are you going? Who is he? Can he be trusted? Was he linked to those convicts?

Samantha felt like a teenager.

After reassuring him that she would be fine Samantha got herself ready. It felt odd to be going out with Jasper again after everything. Part of her wondered whether he had intended to ask anyway, or whether it was spurred on by Johnny. Why would Jasper get jealous over that?

Either way Sammy wanted to look as nice as she possibly could and have a good night with him. She needed this and so did he. After all the nastiness, Samantha wanted to spent some time with her favourite person. They could build a new foundation where the old one had shattered.
