You know I think we've talked before about how Jane has lots of knowledge about how to be a lady-in-waiting and stuff because of her mother, but I guarantee you she has the a lot of knowledge about the less glamorous but still important field of being a castle chamberlain because of her father. It really makes her a triple threat. She can sneak into the ball of a nefarious noble, dressed as a lady of the court, rip off the disguise of a dress and reveal herself as a knight, and proclaim that she knew they were up to something bad because they were so obviously committing tax fraud, she saw the documents herself!

Janther Week 2025 | Wild

(wild-haired gunther sparking a moment of truly seeing one another that acts as a catalyst to an entire relationship. i have rambled more below the cut)

My first (and perhaps last) moment in which i shipped janther (being a janster girlie) was because of a discussion on the JatD Discord server in which I became obsessed with the idea of curly-haired Gunther. Gunther, whose hair is naturally curly (and wild) but he forces it straight, as a literal metaphor for changing in line with his father's expectations, and his own expectations for himself.

from my own Moment (TM) on the server: yeah a kind of buttoned in, literally straight/severe (not the words im looking for but i can't remember the word i'm looking for) look that represents the opposite of jane with her wild hair omgggg some kind of jane/gunther adventure where they encounter a danger whilst off on some knightly quest and dragon flies them away to safety but they land in a lake or the sea and when gunther's hair dries around the fire they have to build because it's too dark to go on it's all curlyyyyy never shipped janther in my life until this moment obvs they have a meaningful talk around the fire and he opens up as his hair is going all baby curls. the metaphor is right there STRAIGHT LACED that was the term i was looking for

Some Headcanons/Thoughts about the JATD kids as adults because why not

(also bear with me I'm still fully waking up from a nap lol)

-Assuming the Castle is able to get new staff when they're older, I see Jester as like a fun uncle towards a lot of the younger new arrivals. He didn't really have anyone to be there for him when he first came to the castle as a child, and I don't think he would want anyone else to go through the same thing. If Jane and Gunther get apprentices of their own, he'd definitely dote on them and tell them embarrassing stories of Jane and Gunther's childhoods.

-as the Castle gets new staff and Jane and Gunther go out into the world, people in the Castle aren't as sheltered as they used to be. They get exposed to a lot more of all the good-and bad-things the outside world has to offer. I feel like Rake would be the person to remind people not to take the stereotypes they learn in the outside world to heart, and to not judge a book by its cover.

-Pepper definitely acts like a mother hen to any young newbies to the Castle.

-Smithy loves learning anything new about metalworking over the years, and isn't afraid to experiment or blend techniques, creating his own unique style that anyone familiar with him instantly recognizes as his.

-Jane is still super passionate, but over the years she learns how to better manage her emotions and mellow out. It takes a lot of time and practice though, and the stress of being a knight doesn't always help.

-Gunther's own emotional journey of knighthood, like Jane's, is an entire roller-coaster that probably deserves its own post lol

Dragonblade AU where instead of being...everything that he is now, Robert is instead another knight that Jane meets while she is doing adult knightly duties for the first time, perhaps when they are both deployed under the same army or something. The two of them hit it off due to similar interests/backgrounds/what have you, possibly even having romantic tension. But then it is revealed that Robert is a traitor who only wanted to bond with her to get access to Dragon and Kippernia's secrets or something and Jane is forced to hunt him down and defeat him. But in the aftermath, she's devastated and still definitely more than a little obsessed with him. He was another knight, older but still sort of in her age range, who took her seriously, who didn't just see her as 'Jane, the girl knight with the dragon' but rather as Jane, the knight. And it was all a lie? How could she have fallen for it? How could she have let a traitor get under her skin?

(And also for all you Janther shippers out there: Jane and Gunther could definitely team up to defeat Robert, and when Jane is spiraling because of falling for the lies of a traitor because he seemingly believed in her, Gunther soothes Jane by assuring her that he always believed in her capabilities as a knight. He also resonates with her struggles with things like paranoia and trust issues afterwards, because now they both have ties to traitors to the kingdom.)

*Modern au* Jane: One time I was in a school play and I had to say the line "where are my parents?" Right after I said "where are my parents?" my father called out: "here we are, darling, in Row H!" Jane: No one ever believes me when I tell this story, but I swear it's true.
