Gynandromorph means they were both with male and female cells, and they hadn't ever felt like they fully embody being a mr or miss, so often just goes by Moth.
They damaged their wings before munching a crocodile tounge and finding their way into the Peach before the journey really began bc I couldn't think of much more backstory stuff lol
