i have a question for you tumblr user sydmarch. do you think syd was in love with hannah geist in some way or another.

yes absolutely I do! imo syd is just as infatuated (if not moreso) with hannah as fans like edward porris is, but is in denial about it & sees himself as "above it all" in a lot of ways & can't admit to it. very parasocial love from a distance type shit.

dr abendroth is definitely onto something when he's questioning syd about injecting hannah's blood into himself, sure on some level it was a way to steal the sample but he definitely also wanted it for himself. he wanted to be the first. I've always imagined that as a primary motivator in why syd does his black market side hustle. he clearly doesn't care about material possessions so doing it for the money seems much less likely than doing it as an excuse to indulge in celebrity illness without having to admit that he actually wants to, that he's no better than a client. recently I found a q&a with brandon where wrt the movie following syd's pov so closely he said "I didn't want other people to have perspective on him, because he's sort of completely defined by this culture but he doesn't realize it, he thinks he's sort of above it and distanced from it" so yeah

getting back to yoir main point hes dedinitely partocularly fixated on hannah. as sarah gadon said in an interview once "it's about a guy who falls in love with somebody he doesn't know and that obsession becomes an illness and that illness proves to be fatal" she was so real for that
