BECAUSE FRIENDSHIP.
Since its Jen's birthday tomorrow and that I would give anything to be there to celebrate with her, I thought now would be a perfect time for an emotional post about her. As per tradition.
There isn't much left I can say about Jen that everyone doesn't already know. She's my best friend, but she's so much more than that. She has half of my heart. Thinking of a world without her in it, makes me shudder because she's that important to my life. Losing her would definitely destroy me. And I never thought someone could be that important to me after only knowing them for 4 years now, but thats something that Jen does. She makes you feel important, like you can do anything even after knowing her for only a few days, weeks, months or even years. Someone who makes you feel that way is someone that you want to and should hold on to.
I don't know how exactly she does it but it may have something to do with her no bullshit attitude. She's definitely not someone who lies. Thats something I always admired about her, because thats what people really need in the world. Being straight forward and honest, without being cruel or mean, is something that will help someone grow rather than break someone down or feel like they can't come to you for anything. She's someone who can be straight forward and honest because you know she's not coming from a place where she wants to control you or anything like that, she really truly cares about your happiness. She doesn't force her opinion on you, but she makes you want to be better for yourself.
For me, having Jen in my life has always meant that I will be the best person I can be. She always motivates me to want more for myself and shoot for higher things even when I'm doubtful. Especially during this transitional time in my life, Jen has constantly been there to support me to make me feel like its okay not to have everything together right now, because I'll get to where I need to go at some point. And when I do have everything together, or at least feel like I do, I know I'll be able to have a milkshake with Jen and know that nothing has changed between us.
People think that friendship has to be about who puts in more. Who cares more, and proves it and shows it the most. Friendship isn't about competing for time. It isn't supposed to be hard, sure there's definitely some work to be put into the ones that really matter, but its not supposed to be hard. Friendship is just about caring about one another and knowing that at the end of the day you're not alone. You don't have to be anything or anyone else when you're with your friend. With Jen, I know I can be anything and she would still care about me as much as she did the first day that we met. I mean unless I was a jerk, then at that point I know she would smack me out of it and make me realize that's not at all who I am. So obviously I would never reach that point. BUT I DIGRESS.
So to my very best friend, the girl who stuck by my side and makes me feel not so alone in this world. To the girl who never fails to make me laugh when I truly need it. To the girl who will change the world because of her care and compassion. To the girl who will never compromise her values for anything (as you shouldn't). To the girl who I truly idolize because she's a great human. To the girl who has been the fox to my hound (or were you the hound and I was the fox. You know I think it really changes depending on the mood). To the girl who has been the Leslie to my Anne,
Happy 23rd birthday Jen!
Thank you for being my friend, my confidant, my family, my sister, my home, and for being all that you are. I love you and I love you for everything you will be in this world. I mean it. Don't ever go away. Pinky promise? Okay good. And I pinky promise that I will never tell your kids about what happened in trabant or cracker barrel.
LOVE YOU. I'm gonna text you right when I get up tomorrow. I'd call you now, but its 11 and there's a high likelihood you're asleep.
