I know right? So glad I’m not the only one who loves him! He is SO goofy, he canonically makes faces at people who piss him off, talks in funny voices including a pirate accent, & laughs at his own jokes. His whimsy is off the charts

You have no idea how bad I need this man to get wrecked. I have some other fics I need to finish, but my god I wanna write something for this movie after rewatching it. It’s genuinely so good & the characters are so fun & interesting & I just NEED them to giggle & be silly

If I don’t get around to it soon, there’s always October lol

Jaws headcanons

Happy 4th of July! Jaws is a must watch for the holiday, so I thought I’d make some headcanons! Not super long, but it’s somethin’

Sheriff Brody:

Not really super ticklish, but you wouldn’t know it by his reactions

He flinches & curls up on himself & he’s grinning ear to ear, but he holds off on laughing until he literally can’t hold it in

More of a ler than lee, but will let his wife & sons gang up on him from time to time

Too professional to start anything with Hooper & Quint, but he’ll damn sure finish it! One time Quint was bullying Hooper & he finally snapped & told him to knock it off or else. Quint called his bluff like “c’mon, we both know you won’t do anything, Chief” & those were the last coherent words he spoke for a while

A surprisingly playful ler once he’s dragged into the fight

Gets a lot more physically affectionate when drunk. Nothing crazy, but he likes to rest his arm around the shoulders of whoever happens to be closest. Also tends to shake you by the shoulders or squeeze your knee when he gets excited

More ler than lee, but will let his wife & kids gang up on him ‘cause he knows he doesn’t play fair all the time

I feel like his worst spots are probably his feet, knees, & ribs

Hooper:

Goofy ass motherfucker right here

Like have you even SEEN how wide & genuine his smile is? Have you even HEARD how silly his laugh is?

He canonically wheezes when he laughs like come onnnn

Bro literally sounds like a barking seal sometimes, his laugh is so infectious, you can’t help but giggle along! I feel like Quint would probably mock his laugh to tease him, & tickles him when he realizes he hurt his feelings to make up for it

Speaking of giggling, he is the giggliest man Brody & Quint have ever known

Laughs the hardest at his own jokes because no one else will

Quint catches him making faces at him behind his back & wrecks him where he stands (he still won’t apologize tho)

He’s so used to his university buddies ganging up & tickling him, so if Brody or Quint make any kind of sudden movement towards him, he flinches away & goes into a defensive stance & already starts giggling nervously

Gets super shy & flustered when they question him about it & tries to brush it off

Very energetic & talkative, so when they’ve had enough, Quint & Brody will just look at each other before pouncing

He’s a switch, but definitely more lee leaning

Worst spots are his tummy, thighs & armpits, but his neck & ears are also really bad

Quint:

He would literally rather die than admit he’s ticklish

He thinks the whole thing is stupid & childish, & acts like it’s beneath him. But for someone who always says that, he sure doesn’t mind being the one doing the tickling

He’s so hardened & grizzled sometimes he forgets how good it feels to cut loose & laugh with friends. Again, he’d never say it tho

Kinda self conscious about his smile if he doesn’t have his fake tooth in, but he plays it cool most of the time & makes jokes at his own expense

Acts like he’s so serious but he loves roughhousing & joking around, especially if it means getting to playfully bully someone (Hooper)

Practically turns the poor guy into his stress ball & “punishes” him for things that aren’t even his fault or just makes up excuses to wreck him

Got fed up with Hooper’s silly lil pirate voice & tickled him until he promised to shut up

They found out he was ticklish when they were all drunk & Brody prodded his side while teasing him. He flinched & choked back a laugh & Hooper immediately called him out like “”not ticklish,” my ass!” & pounced

Starts most of the tickle fights that break out, although they tend to be a little one sided. Unless Brody gets involved & he & Hooper gang up on him

Teasiest motherfucker on the ship, but that’s not really saying much considering there’s only 2 other people on board. But still (I mean he literally told Hooper he had “city hands” the first time they met. So y’all KNOW he has some devastating teases lined up)

I think it goes without saying that he’s a heavy ler leaning switch

Worst spots are probably his hips, sides, & either knees or ribs. You gotta be a bit more persistent to get him laughing tho

Movie nights with Chief Brody would include~

- Your small coastal town doesn’t typically get a lot of excitement so even though Martin is the chief of police, it’s pretty rare for him to work late or otherwise be unable to spend time with you. That being said: he spends most of his day running around and trying to help everyone in town so when he finally gets home, he likes being able to just sit and relax. Meaning that movie nights are pretty much the perfect date for the two of you.

- He’ll usually head to the video store after work and pick something up; oftentimes a movie you mentioned wanting to see throughout the week. If he’s been particularly busy lately, he’ll surprise you with the idea: holding up the bag of vhs’s as you welcome him home from work, saying that he thought you could watch them after dinner and relishing in the excited smile that lights up your face.

- Speaking of particularly stressful days at work: if he’s had a really long week, he’ll find it a bit difficult to totally wind down; half expecting the phone to ring and for him to be summoned back to work. You’ve gotta notice that he’s tense and tease him about it, massaging his shoulders and jokingly telling him to loosen up until he legitimately does; sinking further into his seat and relaxing his posture.

- He typically prefers comedy films or otherwise lighthearted movies; he might even tolerate chick flicks if you’re into those sorts of things. He really isn’t picky though: whatever you’re in the mood to watch is fine by him; he’s usually not paying a ton of attention to it anyway.

- Because he lets you pick the movie, he’s usually the one to go and get pop corn or whatever other snacks/drinks you want to have; letting you focus on the film that mainly you wanted to see.

- You probably throw your legs in his lap as he sits down and he absentmindedly massages them; or strokes up and down your arms if you’re more likely to lean your back against him instead. He likes having some part of you touching him, he’s a surprisingly affectionate person.

- He’ll occasionally press a kiss to your head at random as you’re watching and definitely pays more attention to you than what’s happening on the screen. The only problem with that being that he’ll wind up asking you what happened when you gasp or laugh or otherwise react to what’s just occurred; leading you to chuckle and teasingly tell him to actually watch the movie next time.

- Joking around with each other about the acting and/or weird effects in the movie. The two of you banter quite a bit so it’s no surprise that it carries on into your movie viewing experiences.

- He lowkey laughs at you when you cry but he tries to comfort you regardless; even if he’s trying to hold back his smile. You’ll whine at him not to laugh and he’ll insist that he’s not or that he won’t anymore: but regardless, his reaction usually takes you out of your mood and stops you from crying even more.

- If you wind up falling asleep on the couch, he’ll carry you off to bed and tuck you in; all the whole thinking about how much fun he has just staying home with you and how glad he is to be with you.

Being married to Matt Hooper and going to Amity with him would include~

- Being with Matt was a ...wild ride, to say the least. You’d both met in college, absolutely hated each other for the first year and a half of your studies, and then became inseparable ...in bed at first, before realizing you did in fact like each other.

- The two of you had been working side by side ever since, you being perfectly qualified to be his partner; and one of the few people that can both tolerate and be tolerated by him.

- So when the time came for Matt to try and solve Amity’s shark situation, it was pretty much a given that you would join him.

- Chief Brody likes you a lot more than Matt purely because you’re less chaotic and don’t cause as much trouble.

- Whenever he gets all snappy, you’ll apologize to whoever he’s angry with and make some comment to justify your husbands behavior, even though you’re probably just as fed up with the person as he is.

- Calming him down and being there to take things over. You’ll have to step in and deal with Certain things yourself as yo not stress him out more than he already is. He has no patience with people who are stubborn in the worst ways possible so you’re gonna have to be the patient one.

- Sometimes, you’ll say something that’ll just make something click for him and he’ll look at you, a smile spreading across his face as he blurts out that he loves you. It’s usually followed by him placing an abrupt and quick kiss on your lips.

- Being there to hand him things and translate for the people who don’t understand his marine biology talk.

- Spending early mornings out on the deck together.

- Late night dinners with the crew.

- Dragging him off to bed after he gets drunk. He’s mumbles out praise for you and makes innuendos about whether you’d like to see “his other scars” as you get him out of some of his clothes and into bed.

- Sharing a hammock. It was definitely a bit tricky at first but you think you’ve figured it out, you just have to somewhat lay on top of him.

- Making faces at each other, occasionally behind peoples backs.

- He definitely rants to you about Quint whenever the man is out of ear shot.

- Quint probably underestimates you a lot which bothers Matt to no end. You’re most likely used to people like him so while it ticks you off, you don’t get nearly as offended as Matt does on your behalf. You have to stop him from fighting the man a few times.

- He wastes a lot of film on taking photos of you. He says that he’s doing it to “document what you’re doing” but you both know he just wants to take pictures of you.

- Brody probably asks if the two of you are planning on having kids anytime in the future and Matt just sort of coughs and scratches the back of his head, smiling awkwardly. He feels a swell of happiness and love for you when you answer with a sort of “maybe” answer.

- He calls you cute and thinks it’s sweet when you’re worried for his wellbeing. You roll your eyes everytime and feel a twinge of your worry leave you.

- Giving him a look and absolutely refusing to stand on the edge of the boat for him to get scaled pictures of the salt water monster you’re trying to hunt.

- He takes a long look at you before taking off his glasses in the shark cage, wanting to etch your face perfectly into his memory and savor the beauty of it if it turns out to be the last time he sees you.

- When they’re pulling up the cage and find that it’s empty, Brody lets go of the rope to catch you as your legs give out. He assures you that “he could still be down there safe”, even though he doesn’t really believe it himself.

- He makes sure that you survive, especially since he feels as though he couldn’t save Quint or Matt but he can save you. The two of you wind up balancing on the wreckage of the boat together, out of breath and alive after he blows the shark to smithereens.

- You nearly jump into Matt’s arms as he resurfaces again, crying and clinging to him like you’re afraid he’ll disappear if you let go.

- You’ve had a lot of ups and downs during the past few days, but you’re alive and that’s enough for you in the moment. Alive and with the love of your life.
