Synopsis: In which you and the rabbit stayed in the circus to free everyone else, and revelations at last are shown.
“There is nothing heroic about sacrifices…” Jax comments, staring in a bored state, leaning his chin on his hand, munching on a fry with the other.
You both sat at the empty diner, drinking milkshakes, accompanied by meals and snacks that would never truly satiate any hunger or desire. You spun around your drink, the red and white straw moving by itself once you let it be. Eying it for quite a moment, you open your mouth, only to realize you had no rebuttal to his statement.
You sigh, moving to scratch the back of your neck. You felt heavy, your brain filled with too many incoherent thoughts that were going nowhere, just as you both were stuck in the now broken, half-monochrome circus.
“So, why did you stay?” You ask, turning to look at him.
Seeing your eyes holding a glint of grand curiosity, he gives you a small grin, looking away into his untouched food. “Why’d you stay?” He deflects it onto you.
Groaning, you roll your eyes in a sort of amusement. Even now, he’s still the same rabbit boy you’ve known for years.
Regardless, you knew you wouldn’t be answered so easily. “I… I didn’t see the point in it.” Peering down at your fidgeting hands, you avoid his reaction, not able to predict the outcome of your answer.
He holds his breath in, staring at you silently, only the sound of glitching items from afar ringing in between. Recuperating himself, clearing his throat, and putting his attention on poking the now cold grilled cheese sandwich. Jax couldn’t even let a genuine thought within his mind exist, even through the destruction and now eternal isolation between the two of you, the rabbit still wouldn’t let go of his repressed feelings.
“With a crappy reason like that, you should’ve escaped with them.” He lets out, groaning in displeasure.
“I’m sure there’s crappier reasons.” You say back, now turning your head at him.
His grin falters, a notable irritation written across his face. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Pursing your lips, you hum, grab the straw once again, and take a sip from your shake. Jax watches, rather intensely, in the way your lips softly surround the straw, and then, release it.
“I dunno. I just didn’t know what to respond, so I tried to think of something that would be condescending to you.” You give him a big smile. “Seems to have worked.” You punch him on the shoulder.
Jax hisses, rubbing the spot you aimed. Squinting his eyes at you, he brings up a gloved finger to your forehead, flicking it against you, much to your disliking.
“You’re an idiot.” He sneers.
Blinking your eyes slowly after flinching away from him, you stroke the spot gently. Glaring at him playfully, you lean closer to him, giving a smile full of vanity. Pointing at yourself, and using your free hand to lay it on his thigh.
He has to do his best to avoid flinching, to not move away, and although it's physically taxing to fight off instinct, Jax admits… there’s comfort in the touch that he hasn’t gotten used to just yet. His heart beats rather quickly, and he could even perhaps say every pixel that makes up his body was shaking rapidly within every passing nanosecond.
“I’m your idiot. Forever!” You exclaim, laughing at his lost expression. “Literally.” You wave your free hand around, signaling at your surroundings.
Just as you’re about to retract your hand, Jax places his on top of yours.
The rabbit's grip, while not rough, makes sure to cage you in, unable to move away from him as he scooches closer to you. Long ears leaning backwards, resting slowly at the side of his round head, yet he cannot bring himself to stare into your eyes for fear he would combust.
“That’s… actually really nice.” He whispers.
Your eyes lighten up, and warmth creeps upon your cheeks as you admire the sudden, gentle condition of the usually pessimistic man.
“Is it?” You mutter, curiously trying to peek into his psyche.
His mouth becomes a thin, tiny line, as his black pupils increase in size, now finally finding the courage to gaze into you.
“Yes.” Is all he says, before leaning in, placing his soft cotton-gloved fingers under your chin, guiding you to him.
With grand acceptance, you tilt your head to the side slightly, slowly, in hopes of not scaring him off. You could only wonder how a kiss would feel with these digital bodies, hopefully as delicate as a real one, but even then, you wouldn’t mind, as long as the connection was made.
a/n: Im trying to get out of my Bunny Paraphernelia block by writing more and finishing ideas in my head to clear up space. Dunno if it's working though.
