what are the top 5 or 10 things you love most about upstead ❤?

Ahhhh, why do I have to choose! I love everything about them, but here are the 5 best things that make them so lovable in no particular order: 

They are partners. And not just at work but also in their home life. They make decisions as a team and overcome any obstacle together. There is no "you" or "I"; it's always "us" or "together". If there is a victory, it's as a team. If there is a failure, they deal with it together. They do better together than individually, making them unique from other ships.

They trust each other more than anyone else. Every time they have kept a secret from each other, it isn't because they don't trust each other. It's because fear takes over. They are afraid that sharing that secret can change their relationship. Like Hailey had said in 6x15, they have trusted each other from the day they met. Nothing can beat that.

They aren't afraid to call each other out. They may not see eye to eye on everything or even agree on how to police, but they communicate. They aren't afraid to share their likes or dislikes or criticize the other's actions. If something is bothering them, it may take some time, but they eventually figure it out. Their communication makes Upstead so much stronger and more stable than other ships.

They are so open to each other. Both characters have been through a lot in their past and present. Hailey rarely talks about her childhood or the abuse she went through. But the times she has openly discussed her past, it's with Jay. The first time we saw her open up was in 5x18, barely even a year into their partnership. But she trusted him enough to share some of her darkest moments as a cop. Jay has also done the same. He has been in other relationships during his time in Intelligence, but Hailey was the first person he actively talked to about his time in the military. She was the first person he opened up about when it came to his dad. This openness didn't start when they began dating; it started when they were first partnered together. It shows how much they both trust each other.

They never give up on each other. Since the beginning of their partnership, both Hailey and Jay have screwed up multiple times. But each time they screw up, they never give up on their partnership, friendship, or relationship. Instead, they support each other, being there for them during the darkest moments. They are each other's rock, and no matter what happens in the future, I know that Jay and Hailey will never give up on them.

Bonus: The slow burn. Upstead has THE BEST slow burn in the history of One Chicago. Yep, I said it, and I'll say it again. Upstead is the best slow-burn ship. It may have taken them several seasons to finally get together, but every moment before that has been so beautiful. Yes, we had to wait for 3 whole seasons + a super long COVID hiatus, but it was definitely worth it.

do you think we can hope that gwen will bring down peace to us upstead fans and jesse's departure and possibly tracy's departure from upstead in the end?

At this point, S10 being Tracy's last season is very 50/50. There are some signs that make us think that it could be her last season, such as it's her final year in her contract. But at the same time, we have to think, what if this isn't Jesse's final goodbye. What if we see him back on our screens again?

Ever since the news of Jesse's directorial debut was released, I can't stop wondering, what if Jesse really did want to direct episodes. So what if he and his team decided to take a year off of acting to learn the ropes of directing. And once he has done his directorial debut, he comes back as Jay Halstead. Many actors are now directing on the same show they act in. So what if this is just Jesse's way of doing it.

We won't know more until the S10 finale when the 8 months time period is met. We won't know if Jesse returns for good or if Tracy leaves until the end of this season. We also most likely won't know the fate of Upstead until towards the end of the season.

As of now, my gut is telling me Upstead will be fine. There hasn't been anything major storyline-wise that makes me concerned for Upstead's future. But again, the fate of Upstead is up to Gwen. And I have a very tiny sliver of hope that she won't ruin this iconic ship, especially since majority of Upstead's relationship has been written and formed by Gwen. Would she really want to throw away 5 years of her writing?

At this point, all we can do is be patient and hope for the best! 💙

Nope! Never have, never will.

To a certain degree, yes. I never saw Jay and Erin being an endgame couple. Their relationship was really one-sided. We only ever saw Erin's troubles and never saw Jay's. Their relationship was pure lust. There was no communication, no trust/honesty. I could go on and on about why I hate Linstead, but in summary, I never saw Linstead to last, even if Erin stayed.

Top 5 Reasons why Upstead is better than Linstead: 1) They communicate. 2) They are honest. 3) They trust each other more than anything. 4) They never give up on each other and their relationship. 5) They are always a team.

I used to think they were, but now I don't think so. Burzek is so messy and complicated that I have officially hopped off that ship. They eventually will end up together, or else the writers wouldn't keep teasing Burzek. It may take another 10 seasons; it may happen in S10. If they end up together, great, I am happy for them. If they decide to just be friends, that's okay as well.

Lol! Yes, the finale was definitely boring. Compared to the S8 finale, it was disappointing. PD usually delivers an intense, jaw-dropping finale. Don't know what happened this year. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 9x22 felt like any other episode. I need a cliffhanger, some angst, and drama. It was also disappointing how they completely brushed over the explosion. Like seriously, Hailey just got blown up, and now she's back at work??? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hopefully not. I really hope that if they do introduce a pregnancy story for Hailey, it's one with a happy ending. But knowing the writers and how much they love drama, anything is possible. 🤞🏼

Oooohh...I like this analogy. In some way, yes, they are each other's "medicine". Jay had the most change and growth since Hailey became his partner, so it has to make sense that she has some influence in his life.

Absolutely! 1000% Jay and Hailey have screwed up many times in the past, but it has always been when they are alone. Camilla and Angela West were all mistakes Jay made when he was alone. For Hailey, it was Darius Walker, Gael, and Roy Walton, all mistakes when she was without Jay. They balance each other so well. They keep each other grounded and call each other out on their crap. So yes, I do believe Jay and Hailey are stronger together than alone.

From all the foreshadowing we got from S9, I wouldn't be surprised if we got pregnant Hailey sometime in S10. Logically, kids and starting a family is the next step in their relationship. If we don't see it happen in S10, then definitely in S11.

I don't know how you see it, but I think there should be a pregnant hailey in the next season or the one after that 🙏🏻 I think that you will take a completely different path than kim got pregnant in the 7th season (and the following miscarriage)... because when you see how jay and hailey solve their problems together and then compare burzek with how they have been dealing with their things for 9 and 6 years respectively/seasons after the breakup... and that's why, as i said, i think it will you take a different path with a pregnant hailey 🙏🏻

I see something kid-related happening for Upstead soon, either S10 or S11. Logically, starting a family is the next step in their relationship. Whenever the writers decide to give us Upstead pregnancy, I hope it's not rushed and not just a plot to create tension between the couple.

And you are absolutely right. Upstead would handle a pregnancy way better than Burzek did. The main reason is that they are both married and living together. If Upstead were to have a baby, they wouldn't have to worry about how to co-parent or living conditions. They wouldn't have to worry about who the kid spends most of their time with. There is no scheduling or weekend drop-off. If Upstead had a kid, they would be invested in that child's life TOGETHER.

I am not a fan of comparing ships, especially Burzek and Upstead, as they are both different ships with different characters. But I think Upstead would deal with a pregnancy much better than Burzek. It's not because they are married; it's because, since day one, Upstead has been a team in everything, even before they started dating. So I would expect them to be a team when parenting.

would you describe hailey as an "open book" and jay rather not?

I would describe neither of them to be "open books". From what we have heard, Jay and Hailey probably have one of the most trauma-filled childhoods compared to the other characters on the show. Earlier in their partnerships, we saw how they never opened up to each other. During the Camilla mess, Jay continuously pushed Hailey away. And Hailey did the same when a case affected her. But as they got closer, they felt more comfortable with each other. They trusted each other with their past traumas.

Hailey and Jay are more open to each other, but they aren't as open to others, even their teammates of several years. For example, Adam, Kevin, and Kim probably know that Hailey came from an abusive family, but they probably don't know that her mom and dad are still together. They probably don't even know that Jay didn't have a loving relationship with his dad. I also doubt if the rest of the team knows that Jay used to be married. 😂

jay and hailey had several chances to get together in my opinion (6x02,6x22 and 7x09/7x10) but that would all have been too early especially since the timing wasn't right and it's better to wait and then it will be done right (8x03) and it it's worth the wait... hopefully you'll find a better balance and that now in season 10 jay's perspective on the relationship will be highlighted and he'll get a good angst drama story, maybe finally in the finale and will be continued in the following season hope so... maybe hailey will get pregnant in the finale and before she can tell jay something bad will happen to him...

You're exactly right! I know that many fans think that Upzek ruined S6, but in my opinion, if we didn't get Upzek, we would have had Upstead by the S6 finale. It would have been rushed and wouldn't have been a slow burn. I know we had to wait almost 4 seasons to get Upstead canon, but I think it was worth the wait. I love canon Upstead scenes and enjoy watching Upstead in love. But I also enjoyed the pre-canon Upstead, when they were just partners and friends. Their conversations and looks in S6 and S7 were just amazing. Upstead's timeline has been perfect. Everything has been excellent, from how they met, their first kiss, to their marriage. I wouldn't change a single thing about them.

I would also like to see Upstead's relationship from Jay's perspective. S8 and most of S9 Upstead have been focused on Hailey's perspective on the relationship. We saw vulnerable Hailey and supportive Jay. Hopefully, in S10, the roles are reversed, and we see vulnerable Jay and supportive Hailey. And if the writers do give us an Upstead pregnancy in S10, I hope they first let Jay and Hailey talk about kids and how they feel about their future.

i think it's just great about upstead that jay and hailey heal each other from their traumas and are willing to do anything for each other not just cross lines (morally and ethically) (jay in 9x09) because strictly speaking they only have each other and no one else knows others better than anyone else and both are willing to make more than just sacrifices for the relationship (jay to vo*ght in 9x07 that he should kick him out) because we know that they are worth it to each other because both love each other more than anything and they are soul mates are and are mutually their great love ❤

I agree with everything you said! 💯 One thing that I love about Upstead is that they are willing to do anything for each other. Jay was willing to jeopardize his whole career to protect Hailey from Agent North. He wouldn't have done that if he didn't love her. He wouldn't have done that if she wasn't the most important thing in his life.

One of my favorite parallels is how Hailey wasn't willing to sacrifice her career for Adam, but she was for Jay. in 6x20, Hailey ended her relationship with Adam because she couldn't choose Adam over Intelligence. She had made it clear that nothing would be as important as her job. But then, in 8x03, when the FBI offered her a fantastic job, she immediately said no. She chose Jay over a once-in-a-lifetime job. In 8x14, when Voight found out about Jay and Hailey's relationship, she asked Voight for a new partner. As much as she hated choosing, she ultimately was willing to get a new partner if it meant she and Jay could still be together. They have repeatedly proven that nothing can come between them, no job offer, no grumpy Sargeant, no threatening FBI agent. Their love is so strong that nothing can tear it apart.
