Nerina Lif
Full Name: Cathryn Nerina Lif. She hates her first name (thinks it's too formal).
Gender and Sexuality: Cis female, demisexual/demiromantic if she had to pick. No real idea about her sexuality.
Pronouns: She/her
Ethnicity/Species: Varies by setting. Hylian, human (Greek), human (Kalosian) have all applied.
Birthplace and Birthdate: Her family's farm, December 22nd
Guilty Pleasures: Warm bread with butter and brown sugar, romance poetry, long baths in hot water
Phobias: Claustrophobia, pyrophobia. Both are fairly mild, no thanks to her tendency to bottle everything up.
What They Would Be Famous For: She would love to be a famous composer, but in actuality, she's somewhat famous as the victim of an arson trial gone wrong.
What They Would Get Arrested For: Check that one off the list. Nerina was arrested and falsely convicted of arson at 17.
OC You Ship Them With: None.
OC Most Likely To Murder Them: None.
Favorite Movie/Book Genre: Fantasy. The only thing she wants more than anything else is to start over on a grand adventure.
Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: "It was all a dream." She's hated this one since she was tiny. Nerina needs to be able to feed the belief that there's something better out there. It's what keeps her going.
Talents and/or Powers: A thin but beautiful sopralto. This is a good example by her most recent face claim, Emily Browning, who also just so happens to be pretty much how her voice always sounded in my head. (Lucky me!)
Why Someone Might Love Them: Once she trusts you enough to at least stick around, Nerina is a loyal friend. She's got a sharp sense of humor and an inability to let her friends give up on themselves. She'll also fight whoever dares lay a finger on anyone or anything she loves. To the death. Right now, Neri isn't in a very good place; she's wrestling PTSD and anxiety, and she doesn't have a place to stay. Once she settles down she's a lovable, silly, mischievous girl who's real keen on both hugs and platonic cuddling. She's exactly the sort of person who you'd want to binge-watch an old TV show after a breakup with: homey, a little clever, emotional, and deeply invested in making sure you're okay.
Why Someone Might Hate Them: Well, her old cell mates all hate her for getting off scot-free, certainly. Now, she tries her best to give people no reason to hate or suspect her, but back in the day, several people took quite a disliking to her endless chatter and naiveté.
How They Change: Nerina and I have been together since I was a horrible gangly preteen. She's the OC against whom all the rest are measured, and the one upon whom I project the most. (Poor kid.) She went from being a happy-go-lucky "bardess-in-training" to having a fairly tragic backstory thanks to an intervention I actually didn't control (power-tripping admins on a roleplay forum). I took it and rolled with it. The main thing about her that changes in every iteration, though, is the status of her healing process. My girlfriend recently noted that I only allowed Nerina to get help once I got help myself, and she's definitely right. We've always grown together, and I have a feeling we always will.
Why You Love Them: Oh, the list goes on eternally. As I just mentioned, we grow alongside each other, and I'll always love her for that. Really, though, Nerina was who I wanted to be as a kid — a beloved, carefree, extroverted, music-maker who brought a smile to everyone's faces and could charm the moss off a log. We've changed a lot over the years, but Nerina will always be a dear friend.
Last but not least, here's a picture by the lovely @quicksilver-rain, a dear friend. Thanks again so much, Quicksilver!!!
