so. Jayce Talis is such an interesting character. he is someone who puts his whole heart into the people around him right??
jayce talis is the LITERAL definition of "i will love you till the ends of the earth" because that is literally exactly what he did. imagine, you meet this person who saves you from offing yourself which - actually it's insane how much Jayce's mental problems and the fact that he LITERALLY tried to kill himself is overlooked by the fandom but. anyways. he meets Viktor right? and for the first time he is heard and listened to, he is saved from himself because jayce talis would have destroyed himself without viktor keeping him grounded, making him eat and sleep, making sure his research doesn't consume him, that was all viktor. so jayce obviously adores this man right? and. he has to save V at all costs there's no other option for him, he is a scientist and when he sees V lying there after the explosion...there isn't an option for him. mind you, this is AFTER jay has had a relationship with mel...and he is still concerned with viktor more than anyone else.
so, then Viktor wakes up and. the first thing he does? leave. he leaves jayce after jayce did everything he could to save him and this destroys Jayce in every single way possible, how could he have done that? Viktor was his partner. and so jayce starts hearing those voices back in his head, the same ones who told him that he was worthless without his inventions, that he might as well kill himself all those years ago. and for the first time since he met viktor that night he starts to believe them again
but he has wrongs to right and things to fix so jayce talis drags himself off the ground on shaking legs and gets to works
and then
the alternate dimension
it is clear to the audience at this point that Jayce Talis is a stubborn man, who does not break.
so when he is shattered into millions of pieces its a surprise
he quite literally loses himself in the other dimension, he is no longer piltovers golden boy or the man of progress, he is broken down into nothing. he goes fucking through it, hallucinations, extreme pain and torture, hypothermia (the same that almost killed him and his mom when he was a child) and so much more. if the voices had been getting worse beforehand they are actively ripping him to shreds now. his sense of self is destroyed and the only thing he has left is his mission. Jayce once again pulls himself back from the depths of hell with absolutely no one to help him. he is alone and unloved but goddamit he will do what he can to fix his mistakes.
the indomitable human spirit is exemplified in jayce talis to the highest degree
so he drags himself out of the ravine with one working leg and most of his psyche fractured but he fucking does it. he finally, finally gets to meet the person who started this, the person who years ago saved him and his mother and. its the same man that owns his heart and broke it not a week ago.
he's given a mission.
and jayce talis will do it because what else is left for him? what else is there to do?so he comes back and finally he is the defender of tomorrow. not today, not the entire future, no one in particular. no, he will make sure that humanity gets by day by day, inch by inch even if he has to drag them there himself
he's attacked, by one of...whatever viktor is calling himself drones and. where is his partner? the man he loves? god, it could never be this easy for them could it. they were always destined for each other and maybe that's what'll save them, or maybe that's what always spelled out their ruin
the interesting thing about jayce talis is that he is a weapon. he has been used his entire life, by people around him, by teachers, by the council, by mel, by piltover. he is a loyal soldier who obeys orders and viktor was the first person to treat him as more then a bitch that needed to heel. and viktor is gone now and so, jayce follows his orders like a good soldier would and has no intentions of surviving the final fight

the worst fact is that jayce talis dies not knowing if he was ever truly loved
his parents were noblemen, stiff in their affection, the house of talis is known for being strong and not affectionate
captain who he adores was mainly using him and in the end their relationship was professional more than familial
and Viktor.... Jayce saved Viktor, he let Viktor know he would be with him till the end. but jayce was never told that he was cared for in return.
the tragedy is that jayce died like a dog put down after he's served his purpose, a soldier lost in the line of duty that no one really mourns, a rusted sword that after years of abuse has finally broken
