★ I once made a papier-mâché mask in middle school art class, painted it to look half-human / half-robot, and wore it to a Mardi Gras parade. Walked down the street, and got many unsettled glances or “Oh god why would he wear something like that??” remarks. It was kinda cool ^^ .
Meet the Troupe: Jaylith Duskholm
As we approach the second anniversary of the Tirisfal Theatre Troupe, let’s continue to introduce our cast members personally to you, our wonderful audience! Behind every stage lies a mind focused only on the aesthetics of the theater. One whose diligence and vision matches the director, yet whose mind is aglow with so much more creativity! A creative consultant to some, a senior stage hand to others, Jaylith Duskholm may have only been with the troupe for a year, yet has solidified her place as a truly irreplaceable member of our cast! Well, they’re all irreplaceable, but you get what I mean! Between grand fireworks displays, her hard work in gathering costumes and materials, and her tireless work in helping my disorganized self stay on course, Jaylith is a name many have not often heard that deserves more mentioning. She began as a stage hand in the troupe, and a year later? She is our Creative Consultant, and aids the troupe in so many ways! So let’s take a moment to learn about the woman behind the explosions, Jaylith Duskholm! ATOS: So Jay, to start us off, tell us a bit about the player behind the pyrotech responsible for our grand displays. Just who are you, and what is it you do best?
JAYLITH: I'm a full-time freelance artist, mom, and wife! While most of my time is spent with my family and being busy in general, my evenings are to the Tirisfal Theatre Troupe. I've always been a very creative individual, so performances and fireworks just come come naturally. My best would be the fireworks and being able to coordinate and guide people during them.
(Art By: Jaylith “JayneStrange) ATOS: You certainly know how to optimize your time and organize yourself. Hell, I've even come to rely on you recently to more or less keep me in line in the events! Did you ever foresee yourself doing all that you do in the troupe back when you first joined? JAYLITH: Not even in the slightest honestly! When I first joined, I figured I'd help with a few things, mostly ICly with costumes, helping with stage stuff, and that would be about it. Definitely was wrong about that.
ATOS: Yet you don't mind?
JAYLITH: Not at all. I love it. This guild has really been one of the best things I've had during my time playing Warcraft.
ATOS: I'm glad we could provide this chance for you, then! You'd mentioned to me back when you first joined that you used to do performances on Alliance side as well? Any name that the folks out there might recognize, you think?
JAYLITH: I doubt anyone would remember me, but the lead that handled pretty much all the performances (except the fireworks, which were supplied by me) was from a draenei shaman named Messier. Later, he was a worgen but he still ran the shows under the same name.
(Art By: Jaylith “JayneStrange”) ATOS: Let's talk about your career with us for a bit! Aside from fireworks, which I feel we’ve talked about to death by now, you do a bunch of other tasks for us as we mentioned. You help us organize events, you prepare materials for us to use, help advertise, AND you've even acted in some of our plays. You joined on as a stage hand, and yet you act quite often for us. Is it something that you've gotten used to or do you rather enjoy it by now?
JAYLITH: There are moments that I still need to mentally prepare a bit to get up on stage, just to make sure I'm in the right mindset. At first, it used to really make me nervous because I was worried about messing up a line or timing.. which I have.
After this point now, it really isn't too big of a deal and it's just part of the routine and I rather enjoy it!
ATOS: What would you say your most memorable moment on stage or just having your character play another character has been?
JAYLITH: Would the bash from last year count? I'm going to say it does. I would say when we did our first year anniversary at the necropolis, which was the biggest event I had part part of during my time in the troupe and I even took on the role of Madam Jaylith the fortune teller. I wasn't expecting much, when I first came down to start my rounds when I was shortly stopped and did not move from that spot for the rest of the time because my line never got smaller! It was a lot of fun making up predictions for people and giving him fortunes.
ATOS: Ah, Madam Jaylith! I would say that counts for sure then, yeah! What can you say about the people in our troupe? What's your favorite thing about being here OOCly? JAYLITH: We're definitely like a family. We've had our share of ups and downs and bumps in the road, but we've come through it and we're all still here. One of the best things I would think is our sense of humor between all the troupe! We really know how to have fun, even if it's an big performance event or us just getting together for Cards Against Humanity. Our characters work together well ICly, but we work well together OOCly as well.
(Art By: Jaylith “JayneStrange”) ATOS: I too find that it's important to have both IC and OOC synergy with one another. I'm happy you agree! And we totally need to have another CAH night soon!
Let's learn a bit about your character. Who is Jaylith Duskholm?
JAYLITH: Jaylith is a Lordaeron forsaken, born to two mage parents. She has a brother, who just recently returned to her. During life, she was a traveling performer, going from city to city with the rest of her troupe to entertain people. It wasn't quite like the TTT in terms of plays, but more acrobatic and performance stuff.
Riding horses, doing tricks, and fireworks! This is where her history as being a human for a short time came into play, so I kept it when I turned her back into a forsaken. For a while she worked with the Undercity Military with the Forsaken Front with the fight against Gilneas. She also was with the Royal Apothecary Society with the Implantation Division under Brightflame Masjenal. Over time, it lost its luster and Jay met Joe, who then introduced her to the troupe and it just went from there.
ATOS: That's quite a history! It's also nice how Joe had a hand in bringing you to us. We'll make sure he receives a bonus.
Maybe.
Probably.
Probably not.
What is the best advice you can give roleplayers?
JAYLITH: Hmm.. I would say just to get involved. Talk to people you wouldn't normally talk to, branch out and remember that we all pay to play this game, so make it something you enjoy. If you don't enjoy it, seek change and make it better. Find RP partners you really enjoy, but don't forget to give new people a chance too.
ATOS: A fantastic way of viewing things, I say! Are there any parting words you'd like to give to your adoring fans?
JAYLITH: I have adoring fans?
ATOS: Yes. Yes you do. JAYLITH: Well, I would say thank you, I love you (not creepy at all.. well... maybe in a undead creepy kind of way), and never to be afraid to talk to me or any other troupe members! We don't bite.
ATOS: Alright folks, you read it here first! WE DON'T BITE! Though we do nibble a bit. And you can be nibbled on by Jaylith and the rest of our crew at the Tirisfal Theatre Troupe's "Big Anniversary Bash" on the 24th of October!
Also, if you want to check out Jaylith’s lovely art, which has been presented to you in this Meet the Troupe segment, please head on over to her Tumblr page! She does commissions, and she does them well as you can see! So give her a look and show your support for the troupe! And we’ll see YOU at the Big Bash on October 24th! http://jaynestrange.tumblr.com/
Yooooo korkrunchcereal, I haven’t forgotten about you! Bit of a WIP for the full painted bust for getting first in my raffle. Coming along!
