We're sorry, we love you, ok?
It's been a good while since we updated our blog.
We have indeed been VERY quiet, especially on the progress of our first full-length album, which I assure you is still very much on the way.
Maybe some explanations are needed: (Though, you've probably heard them all before)
- We all have day-jobs. Well, in some way or another. I (Shannon) work for a newspaper bureau, which usually takes up most of my time, busy or not. Ben has his own little animation/production company called Cool Yr Jets (They make lovely eye-candy) which keeps him pretty busy. Jason does final-mix for a car show called RPM. And Matthew, is pretty much a chauffeur to his family and sometimes helps his dad with real-estate stuff. These things make life pretty hard sometimes, as we're always aching to practice, and get better as a band, of course.
- Funding can get in the way. Alas, we have a pretty decent "album-fund" saved up already.. (And we couldn't thank those who helped us enough to reach it, you know who you are) We're looking to rent/buy some new equipment so we can record the album ourselves. Total control. Calm environment. Ya know? That sorta thing. We have over 60 minutes of new music written, and we hope to start recording as soon as possible. Unfortunately, that is all we can say for now.
- Playing live. This has become harder for us. Joburg is cram-packed with small "club" type venues, and not enough live ones. We usually play at the same venues over and over due to this. This can become quite tiresome, and a change of scenery is always needed to spark creativity no? We think so.
- Other music we make. Although this shouldn't exactly be a reason for our absence, it definitely plays it's part. When we're not eating pizza at practice, or writing new music - we make OTHER music. Below is a list of all the other projects we're involved in:
Jasynth is Jason's solo project. He makes dreamy electronic music, and has 2 EPs out thus far.
Humanimals is Matthew's math-pop project. He makes noodly tunes, constantly releasing singles.
Her Stems Spiral is Shannon's new "avant-gaze" project. For fans of screamo, math-rock and weirdness.
Lemuria is an electronic/post-rock project started by the 3 of us, with the recent addition of another close friend.
I hope this clears everything up. Or at least, excuses us from being so silent, in SOME way. (Gulp)
We're completely devoted to getting our full-length out as soon as it's possible, but until then, we're just going to have to ask you to be patient. (We know you have been, and we appreciate that very much! *hug*)
In the mean time, we have a show with our friends in Paving The Labyrinth on Friday the 17th of May, at Amuse Cafe in Linden. 20:00 / R30 entrance! This is our first time performing with these lovely lads, and we just know it's going to be amazing - so we hope to see everyone there!
Lots of love from Shannon, Matthew, Jason & Ben
