“save the world -- yeah fucking right. one, i would scare the living shit out of little kids, and most adults. two, only thing i’m saving is the occasional cheater or two when their partners find out about them via my services. three, you can’t even get a girlfriend, let alone be a sidekick. sounds childish.” ( @jcdedlove )

Klara walked into Gavin’s office carrying a pile of files on top of her Constitutional Law textbook. She placed the files on the corner of Gavin’s desk along with a coffee before moving to her smaller desk in the corner of the room and opening her textbook and beginning to fill out the study guide for her upcoming test. She always made sure to get in early and have work done quickly as it allowed her more time to study when she wasn’t needed for filing or some other work. She rubbed her temple as she read before looking up and spotting Gavin hovering in the doorway watching her. “Oh,” she said, “the files for your appointments for the day are on your desk and so is your coffee.” It wasn’t necessarily her job to get him morning coffee but she did it anyways.

Klara had been tracking him for a week and she was smart enough to learn his habits. Just as she was smart enough to know it was best to insert herself close to an enemy, if she hadn’t been so into politics she’d probably be a great undercover detective herself. Having been to law school also helped a bit, she knew how the system worked. So she positioned herself at the bar she knew the detective would be at. He was investigating a murder she may have had a small role in. At least that’s how she had it written in her head. It was simple, her best friend had killed the girl who had been blackmailing him. It had been a slight surprise to Klara under the circumstances that in some way she thought she hated the girl more than he did. There was a long history there but her history with the girl was buried for the most part years ago which knew would keep her hidden. This was more so decent positioning to keep an eye on the case less for her and more for her friend. They were unbelievably close like siblings so she hadn’t even hesitated when he called her for help and she wasn’t hesitating now. Then again Klara was just like that, she’d do anything to protect those she cared about, and while her surface appearance seemed selfish the deeper layer revealed a girl ready to sacrifice for those she loved, which in some sense was what she was doing now. She sat in the seat next to the one she noticed the detective always sat at. She stirred her straw in her drink and watched from the corner of her eye as the detective sat beside her and ordered his drink. She pushed her hair back revealing her neck a bit turning over to give him a small smile before turning her eyes forward again.
