Hey, what are you doing here?

“I disagree. Chocolate and some cheeses do go together.” He said. He’d try just about anything once. And so he’s had chocolate and cheese, and while it sounds odd, it really was a great combination. “Well that’s true. I am a simple man. But tell me, what does the pancake thing tell you about me.” He mixed together the ingredients for her waffles then plopped a little bit of butter in the waffle inron before pouring the mix in and closing it and turning it. Next, he focused on his pancakes. “You’ve probably come into the station once or twice.” He told her. “Since you’re a lawyer and all. I’m a detective so its not an uncommon as people think for you to come into a station looking for files or something. Though I’m sure you know that already. Must’ve just seen you in passing because I never forget a face.”
Klara laughed and said, “Brie is normally good for chocolate and it’s good to have them back to back, like fondue,” she grinned. Klara listened to him and said, “Pancake loves are down to earth, they think in the box most of the time, have a tendency to go after the obvious though sometimes they’ll dive out. Their stubborn takes a lot to sway them. Waffle lovers tend to think outside of the box which sometimes makes them miss the obvious, they focus on the details so much they can forget the great picture, but their pretty good at catching patterns, their perceptive about behavior. They just tend to get more distracted,” Klara commented. Klara sometimes had a tendency to let her mind simply take control and she didn’t even listen to what came out exactly. She played with a strand of her hair and looked up at him and laughed softly, “And here I thought I simply made an impression,” she winked.
Gemini listened to her before nodding. “Hmm. Well I’m a pancake man. But I’ll make you your waffles anyways.” He started pulling ingredients and tools from the cabinets. “And by the way, chocolate chips don’t belong in pancakes. Fruit? Yes. Chocolate? Please God, no.” The detective glanced at the woman in the door frame again. She really was gorgeous. But not in a typical way. And she sort of looked familiar. “Klara with a K…” He murmured to himself. “Are you famous or something?” He asked.
Klara shook her head at him and said, “Chocolate belongs everywhere, the only thing chocolate doesn’t mix with are vegetables and cheese,” Klara argued. Klara sighed and said, “Pancake lovers are simpleton’s nothing wrong with it necessarily but says a lot,” Klara smirked. Klara laughed lightly and said, “No, not famous yet,” she joked. “I’m a lawyer, simple civil law type not a lot of money there but I get to help people and protect them against discrimination so I enjoy it. Decent building block to being a politician if I ever decide to actually do it, being a lawyer is kind of like being a clean up crew after something bad happens normally, politicians are supposed to prevent it before it happens if they can, of course often they don’t,” she shrugged and laid on his couch with a small smile. “So do I know you Gemini the Gemini or do I simply have a common face?”
Trevor didn’t understand the need to be nervous, but again his family had fallen apart after his mother died. The holidays were his sister and him sharing a meal and then her resenting him when Trevor got called into work. It was an endless cycle of work and resentment as the main course of every holiday meal. He squeezed Klara’s hand tightly only to feel her let go, and he watched. He nodded offering the bottle of wine he had gotten. Nothing too fancy, Klara had seemed to declare that about ten times in her text messages and twenty in her emails. “Hi, I’m Trevor,” he offered to extend his hand out for a friendly handshake.
Klara navigated quickly to Trevor’s side again. Klara’s mom smiled taking the wine and said, “Thank you,” she said. Klara shook her head as her mother ignored he hand and hugged him instead. “You’re very handsome, I’ve seen pictures but you’re even,” Klara’s mother began before Klara gave her a look before she was swept off her feet by her brother. “Hey punk,” her brother grinned, “still short I see.” Klara rolled her eyes as she was set down and said, “Well you’re still dumb.” Her dad came up from the basement and said, “There’s my Klara.” He quickly passed by Trevor as if he wasn’t there before hugging her. She pulled away slowly and pulled Trevor over and said, “Dad this is Trevor, Trevor this is dad,” she hoped she could control the meeting and there wouldn’t be any explosion.
Trevor stopped Klara before she could move any further, he was behind her with his hands on her shoulders massaging them. “Hammond, we’re fine. We are going to be fine, parents love me,” he reassured her as he spoke in the shell of her ear before he kissed her cheek from behind. “We need to do this, all you need to do is knock on the door and I will be with you every step of the way.” Although perhaps Trevor should feel nervous meeting her family he had no time to allow those emotions to fill considering Klara was nervous herself.
Klara paused for a moment and leaned back against Trevor’s touch. She came back pretty much every holiday and by herself it had been difficult enough. Especially for the past couple years when she really got into her political career. Her father was a stanch republican which made things difficult and while her mother was a democrat and gave her some foundations, even her mother wasn’t the most socially progressive. So work was never a good discussion. And while her father had yet to say it out loud yet she was certain that he wasn’t happy the guy she was bringing home was black and she could only hope her father wouldn’t make any sort of back handed comment. Klara huffed and walked back to the door and rang the doorbell. She quickly reached for Trevor’s hand holding onto it for a moment before her mother opened the door and wrapped her in a hug and forced her to let go to return it. “Hey mom,” she smiled lightly stepping up into the house.

“Okay so listen,” Klara said stopping and turning in front of the door to her parents house her bag draped over her shoulder. “My parents can be a little well, my mom blurts things at times but she’ll be easy, my dad just try to talk sports and how you’re a doctor and how you make good money, but be humble also. Don’t bring up my career or anything that I’m doing politcally with him, it’s not a good idea. With my brother sports is good also, just simple fluff conversation, and my sister she’s simple she doesn’t care about anything that’s said. And if they say anything bad just ignore it and I’ll handle it later,” she cringed. “Or we could always go back home, maybe that’d be the better option,” she panicked making a move back towards the car.

I am a kick-ass woman, I suppose. And I’m realizing that more and more.
Klara’s Family
Klara grew up not far from the Colorado state capitol the daughter of two middle class parents. Her household was an accepting one to a point. Her father was German and her mother half Hispanic. However her parents were very differing in the career that she would later take. Her father a republican and her mother a democrat. She took after her mothers political policies much to her fathers dismay. When she was young she was already talking politics but not in a way that made her focus in on it until she was in high school. Even still her father would try to shut down her political opinions and convictions calling her stupid for thinking them. As she grew up she realized how intolerant her father was on racial issues and sexuality and how uneducated her mother was. Her mother was tolerant but not accepting and her father made comments that made Klara cringe. When Klara went to college she finally felt as if she had more freedom and more room to debate with differing ideas rather than simply being shut down like her father had. She adores both of her parents but she finds it best to avoid talking about work around them. She’s closer to her mother than her father because of this and as she was growing up despite their faults she always felt able to tell her mother almost anything and her mother is where she got her strong willed and assertiveness from. Her father spoiled Klara quite a bit as a way of making up for being unable to communicate with his daughter.
When it came to her siblings, she had a differing story. Her father had a son from a previous marriage who was ten years older than Klara who adored her older brother. She was always marching after him when she was little. However when she was elementary she caught on to the fleetingness of people rather soon. Her brother got involved in drugs and stopped coming around as often. Dropped out of college where he had a full scholarship for baseball and soon his visits were only at Christmas time when he came to play nice to get his gifts. He was a good brother when he was there and each time she believed him. Believed he was staying. But he didn’t. He only stopped using drugs and came around often when he started dating his girlfriend Chloe. He eventually married and divorced her in a ear and found another girl. Klara realized that she and their family weren’t enough to keep him around, only the women he dated.
Then there was her younger sister, the pair couldn’t be more different. Her sisters interests were far different as was her drive and personality. Klara burst into situations and put up a fight, her sister had little to no backbone. When they were younger they were always arguing. When they grew older they simply avoided seeing each other as much as they could.
Klara suffered from anxiety all her life but it got even worse when middle school and high school came around. Her parents had seen her brother begin to slip around this time and put a lot of pressure on Klara to not be the same. She didn’t want to be like her brother on her own but her parents were even worse. B’s weren’t good enough. Only A’s were do or they’d say she was just like her brother. It hurt her. And when she told her parents it did they told her to get over and continue it. It got to the point where she rarely slept and got sick constantly from the anxiety. It was so bad that even the littlest things could set her off. This was when her family decided to pay attention to her anxiety and laid off her and her grades a bit. At which point Klara began to achieve even more. It’s this anxiety and the feeling that second place isn’t good enough that drives her sometimes putting her need for success over her feelings and others.
