I know you have every right to despise me; frankly, I don't think anyone can truly hate me more than I do myself. Your creation was, admittedly, not under the best of intentions or circumstances. Whether you believe me or not, I am sorry if I ever left you feeling unwanted. Our interests seldom coincide and we may never see fully eye-to-eye, but I want you to know I'm proud of the man that you have become. You took your circumstances and made a truly unique person of yourself, which is something that I was unable to find the strength to do myself. Emotionally damage Kon || Always accepting

Kon's silent for a minute. It feels like more than a minute painfully drawn out. The sentiment is nice. It's nice to be acknowledged. It's nice to be acknowledged as what you actually were. To be praised for an identity that you always thought you lacked compared to everyone around you deep down. Kon resisted the natural urge to bite back at his estranged father. He's not one hundred percent sure that Lex is being genuine, he never is, but there's a little inkling of hope there. Kon's narrowed eyes softened. It wasn't worth it. Not today at least. He swallows the lump in his throat. "Merry Christmas Lex." Kon replied his soft, vulnerable. He turned around and wiped his eyes before slipping his sunglasses on to his face. "Try not to make my life hell in the new year yeah?"

"Simple. It's good press." Mercy stated matter of factly looking down at her boss. She was loyal down to the bone. "We have a lot of red in our ledger Lex. That's a cold hard fact. Support is gained slowly, a few loyal followers is better than hundreds of mindless sheep. Just look at our workforce. It's amazing what spending a little money and having excellent job perks can do for morale." Mercy leaned up against the wall and cast her eyes upward. "Now think about what spending a little money could do for in terms of say, fixing a couple of roads, building some public libraries, outreach and after school programs. Think of the tax break but think even more about the good trustworthy name that Lexcorp would have if we do just a few little things like that."

“Nunya.”  Dammit, Harleen, enough being rude to random strangers.  A bit exasperated, mainly over being hurt in the first place, she puffed out a breath.  “...No, okay, sorry.  Just frustrated.”

She tried her best to hide a grunt of pain as she grabbed a bit tighter at her shoulder.  At a passing glance, the motion could be taken as just some kind of nervous tic, but upon closer look, there was clearly a tear in her hoodie sleeve.  And her hand wasn’t big enough to cover the dark - stained fast food napkins tucked into the fabric.  Think on your feet, Har.  “Uh, didn’t catch his face.  Happened too fast.”

Not a complete lie, but hey, can’t be confessing to an attempted two - man five finger lunch discount.  Not on this side of town, at least.
