Welcome to Fairyland
6:34pm: It was like a Summer’s evening outside when I walked from the car lot to H Studio, a art gallery and fine furniture show room. The space was filled with hand blown glass art work and beautiful, one of a kind furniture pieces. I found my space on a lovely harvest orange lounge sofa and prepared both my professional and semi-professional cameras for video and photo work. A kind gentleman photographer sat beside me and we chatted a moment about video and photography. He happened to mention he had a studio off 9th street here in downtown LA but unfortunately his name has slipped my mind. Oh well! 8:12pm rolled around and the show was about to start. Being the stubborn artist I am, I wrapped my semi-pro Nikon around my neck twice for safety and then placed the camera it upon my head, hitting record. I prepared my D5200 by placing it in my right hand and turning it on its side for portrait shooting. Just as I was fully prepared, this lovely model came walking through. She walked among the custom furniture and artwork, though no one saw much of that stuff because this angel seemed to float in, dressed in pale blue couture. As she descended the white stage, a cherub emerged in a vintage style, green and blue flower print. The garment was long flowing and as she played with the thin fabric as she walked, it seemed to have opened up like graceful flower petals in the wind. Behind this garden beauty was another floor length print. This print was of a delicate green and cream with woven yarn accents. Describing this piece is just as difficult because it left me wanting more. A fourth garment emerged and this one was shorter and had a fun appeal to it, in its royal blue and lime green. Laughter could be heard, a joyful laughter as the tiny dress reminded us all of our playful youth. As my mission to photograph the fashion designs before me was slowly succumbing to my dreams and fantasies, I continued to watch in awe as the garments came through. An emerald green frock flowing of silk and delicate lace stunned me and I was again taken back to family. My grandma Joyce had always worn these emerald stud earrings and delicate matching necklace. I have it somewhere safe, but the jewels came to mind upon seeing this dress. The style was modern vintage, with lace and brocade appliqué and I couldn’t help but imagine myself wearing the gown. Again, I am stuck in a daydream where only these garments and I exist. A final piece came out and it was what could only be described as a porcelain China doll. That peach and pink silk fascinated me and I pondered for a moment how I could have ever forgotten my childhood and the evenings spent, setting with grandma Edna, looking through her delicate collection of handcrafted dolls. The garment was gathered at the bottom to indicate a mermaid style ball gown, perhaps something from the 40s era? I do not know and frankly I do not care because the piece is indescribable! So, there you have it folks. JChans Designs. Her latest collection, Fairyland, can only be described as a dream.
