S2.E17 - Proteus
long read of some of my thoughts on the episode and harold finch. i don’t write about poi like this often but i did for this one *shrugs* here you go
i liked this episode. yes, it has a predictable storyline but everything else was enjoyable. with the dark and stormy aesthetic and the murder case it has a unique factor unlike other episodes i’d seen before. it’s a good one to rewatch in that sense and because i loved finch in this one (when do i not?). the horror elements in this episode were well done: the bad connection, the teeth… proteus is one of a few episodes i thought dived into a ‘scary’ experience instead of just an action thriller. i liked the bit where reese gets attacked by the drug smuggler fisherman with a harpoon.
the umbrella scene in the beginning too *twirls my non-existent hair* i thought it was a nice scene between reese and finch because even though they don’t have a number, they simply like to be together.
onto finch, i did not expect him to fly a plane especially during a thunderstorm. certainly an interesting way to get to reese. i think he just wanted a reason to practice his flying skills.
while the mysterious killer had finch at gun point, he expressed how much he disagrees with the man, how wrong he believes it is. i like how this scene reinforced how brave finch actually is even if he comes across otherwise. i mean, he was even going to be temporarily spared for being usefull! perhaps on a darker note, he sees himself as someone who should be hurt, unlike the victims of the killer. fighting for a good cause is well worth it for him.
this is the first episode we see harold without his glasses and to say that man is blind without them is an understatement lmao. i don’t think he could see 1 foot in front of him.
i would also like to briefly mention that how finch acted on owen island reminds me of ben linus from lost like just ever so slightly. because he is a very very important man who should be interrogated. but the people around him think he couldn’t be that dangerous, could he?
tldr i simply love this look :)
