Reasons why I don’t like Anidala
Disclaimer: My intentions with this post are to expose what I thing about this ship . In no way, shape , or form do I intend to offend those who ship it . If you like it , who am I to tell you that you are a bad person for it , right ? But I wanted to put out there some of my thought so here it goes . ( and sorry this is a giant of a post )
She was the catalyzer to his fall :
One thing most fans agree on, anti or not, is that Padmé was the catalyst for Anakin's downfall she is not to blame for it all, but she was the turning point. But I would like to see this from a more critical point, if Padmé was not in Anakin's life, or just being a friend, I can see that Palpatine wouldn’t have as much leverage to use and and abuse of Anakin , he wouldn’t have something as strong as the love that Anakin felt for Padmé to manipulate him. So it would be infinitely harder for him to make Anakin cooperate with him .
Anakin and Padmé are too incompatible:
To say that Anakin and Padmé have different points of view about the galaxy in which they live and how they should live, would be an understatement, it is shown several times that the two are very different, not only with their visions in politics as in their behavior. While Padmé, was a very independent and mature woman, Anakin had a more childish, brash and reckless demeanor, that he used to hide the pain of his past and the toll that the expectations of others had on him. Is see that if they spent the time that normal couples spent with each other they wouldn’t , hold on to it for long and end things for good .
Padmé didn’t understand Anakin fully:
So, we came to one of the points that made me realize that this ship wasn’t something in which the two characters could end up happy in. We all know that Anakin was a very troubles young man, the pain of his past was enormous and consumed him, however he never let the others see his pain only showing it when it was overwhelming to supress it. And Padmé never confronted him directly about this, she knew that he had pain, but she didn’t know how much it affected him, because she was very different from him and couldn’t come to understand. So in the contrary of helping him to come to terms with his fears and pain, her presence only made him not confront this part of himself, he wouldn’t appear weak, letting him get more and more consumed by its darkness .
They really didn’t have that much chemistry:
Now this is not the characters' fault, but how they were written, and how they were executed. In my opinion, the prequels are far from being a master piece, but for me the way the romance between Anakin and Padmé was constructed, bothered me a lot, because the position in which Padmé was placed, was that of the damsel in distress that needed a knight in shining armor to save her , I know that people like this trope, but I thought that their relationship could have been developed, in a situation where the two would be equals, and where the love that they felt for each other would have bloomed naturally.
They didn’t have enough time to develop their relationship before and after tying the knot:
Let's talk about the fact that they had seen each other ten years ago and after a week they got married. This did not help to form empathy for the couple, usually the spectators, form a kind of liking to the couple when they form a relationship, but the two did not have much of a relationship where empathy could be born, something that was only aggravated by the fact that after getting married, they saw each other from time to time, because of the Clone Wars, so the empathy that should be formed does not happen, at any point in the narrative .
Anakin and Padmé would have been better with other people :
It is no secret that their different roles in society brought different views of what was right and wrong, and the way they acted with each other was far from being something healthy. All I'm saying is that I wanted Padmé to be with someone that she could discuss about her intellectual things without being scared by the hot takes the other person had. And Anakin needed someone that helped him get over his shit , someone who understood his past and how he had been brought up, possibly someone who had been born in the same conditions as him, and who had left these conditions. Someone who like him would fight for his freedom at any cost.
They brought the worst out of each other :
We are lady talk about the fact that Anakin and Padmé were very different people, who had a direct influence on how the other behaved, for example, when Anakin had the any sort of doubt that Padmé was cheating on him with Clovis instead of confronting her and telling her why he was uncomfortable with that situation, he opted to beating the shit out of Clovis, bringing out the most violent, possessive and jealous parts of himself. And when Anakin went to Mustafa after order 66, Padmé didn’t think logically or wisely, as she had been portrayed to be, and ran to meet her beloved. So with those examples , my gut instinct says that yes they bring the worst parts of each other out .
In Conclusion:
No I'm not saying that for these reasons you should stop ship them, or that you're a bad person for doing so, far from it I just want to expose my opinion without any desire to offend anyone, and if you want to talk more about this please contact me, I'd love to hear different ideas.
