India has the largest number of technical institutions in the world. Not only does it have the largest number of engineers in the world but also produces over 1 million engineering graduates every year. However, of these graduating engineering, only around 5–6%% of the them are conferred their degrees from institutes such as IIT, NIT or other autonomous deemed universities. The other residual graduates join private engineering colleges, that have AICTE approved. Engineering is an ever-green vocation and admission into institutes that are funded by the Central government such as IITs and NIT is every student’s dream. A big reason for such a demand for these colleges is that admission into these colleges, lays the foundation for world class education at a subsidized cost. It also provides breaks to be hired by top Multinational corporations with a big pay package. Education from IITs and NITs creates a scientific bent of mind for budding researchers. Therefore, the entrance examinations into these colleges or institutes are extremely competitive with small acceptance rate. For engineering students, there are two main important examinations, namely Joint Entrance Examination –Mains [JEE MAINS] and Joint Entrance Examination Advanced [JEE Advanced]. Both these exanimations are sequential.
