hi hello, just finished reading your new fic and i’m still kicking my feet and giggling. it made my tuesday morning so warm i’m gonna start the day so fresh and happy thank you!!!!
i’m wondering how you prepare yourself when you sit down to write the fucking? (lol) sorry this just looks wrong when typed out. i mean like do you put on your most vibe-y playlist? have a favorite beverage next to you? write in a specific location? it’s because i’m having a tough time writing my own scene in my fic and i’m stuck!
i was in shambles and a pile of cozy warm happy goo after reading yours so wanted to take notes ✨💜
ahhhhh first of all, thank you so much 💕🥰
So I guess my answer to this is maybe not the most helpful haha because basically I can only write smut when I'm in the right ~mood~. It's the one kind of scene I find I really can't force, so if I sit down to write it and it's not flowing, I'll usually just stop and work on something else.
Sometimes I can kind of jumpstart the process by re-reading some of my favorite explicit fics, stuff that I just think is super hot for whatever reason. My other trick is that writing (or re-reading) the sexual tension part of the fic can help me get in the right zone to write the actual sex, so I'll either re-read those scenes or try to ramp up to the sex scene by writing whatever the lead-in is. And that helps me feel like everything flows, too.
Truthfully though, sex scenes ARE hard to write! They just are. I'm pretty new to it, and I think what's been the most challenging is just balancing all the various aspects of the scene--the dialogue, if there is any (and I love some fun dialogue in my sex scenes), the actual blocking (sex scenes are, at their core, technically action scenes? You gotta know who's putting what where without it feeling too clunky) and most importantly, the FEELINGS each person is having--and that means BOTH the POV character and their partner. It's a lot to balance and it takes a lot of practice and effort. And I am far from perfect at it.
As for location, I have to be comfy, so I either write it on the couch or in bed, never sitting at a table or desk. Although honestly I tend to write most of my fanfic sitting on my couch or in bed so that's not specific to writing smut.
I hope this is at all helpful and good luck!!!
