Dear Gus & Baby #2,

I'm in Fort Worth today for an all-day meet with our Water Team to develop ways to communicate their messages over the next year. It's always good to collaborate with folks we don't normally collaborate with. I read a book called Range by David Epstein recently and all day today I kept coming back to the idea in that book that to solve some problems, it can be extremely beneficial to bring in people who are from completely different backgrounds. It felt like some of that was happening today.

Dear child(ren),

Po used to tell me, “Guy-boy, if you don’t know what you’re supposed to be doing, grab a bucket and be’a’walking.” It’s some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten. And in this context, it could be updated to say, “Put a camera on a tripod and be’a’filming.”

Dear Gus & Magnus,

Another long day at the Ops Challenge, followed by the awards ceremony. The two teams from Colorado I followed got 3rd and 5th place, which was disappointing, but it could have gone a lot worse. A team from Texas saw the video we made about the Colorado teams and envied that treatment, so we may be making another Ops Challenge video soon for them. Stay tuned.

Dear Gus & Magnus,

Bryan and I spent most of the day at Jeff's house, filming him talking about the Guadalupe River, which runs behind his house. We also got some footage of his family. He has two little girls, and helping them get in and out of kayaks made me miss you two something awful. Especially because I've been eager to take Gus canoing for the last year or so.

It's been a long week, made longer because we're working through the weekend -- today is Saturday. Filming some b-roll in the morning, driving to the Austin office to upload footage, then steering the truck for home.

Dear Gus,

We drove to Frisco last night and Mary and I went with Jeff to a Dallas Water Utilities wastewater treatment plant, which is a top-five plant in the country when it comes to handling sewage volume. Then we had barbecue. Then we picked up Derek from the hotel and drove him to Oklahoma City. Then we met my friend Adam Stodola for dinner in Wichita before continuing on to Kansas City. It was a long day, made longer because I miss you and Mom.

Derek and I are in Texas for a couple of days to get photos of a wastewater treatment plant and also some promo shots for our annual meeting. Our promo videos have come a long way since I was filming your mother in Tulsa.
