Ms. Venters--where do you get your wonderful collection of big floppy goth hats?
The floppy wide-brimmed ones, not the slightly more structured, elaborately decorated wide-brimmed hats? The wool one is a vintage piece that was an INSANELY lucky find on eBay. One of the straw hats was from H&M two summers ago, and the one that has a slightly upturned brim and giant bow was a present from a friend, who found it at an estate sale; the original owner wore that hat to a Kentucky Derby back in the late 80s.
The elaborately decorated wide brim hats all started out as assorted wide-brim “church hats” that I found at thrift stores or eBay, then spent a couple evenings adding more tulle, ribbons, feathers, and bird skulls. :)
jeneelestrange replied to your post “Any tips on how to create a whole flower language? My story is set on...”
Also, how familiar a person is w the plant or their culture will color how they see those characteristics. Victorian flower language see cypress as a foreboding thing because they grow in swamps, and that is creepy to most British people. I live in Louisiana where they are EVERYWHERE though, and mostly I associate them with a sense of eternity or immortality because we all know they are the most resistant to rot. Cypress wood is expensive and sought after for a reason.
You’re absolutely right, personal associations can also play a role in how a plant is seen and interpreted. Thanks for the addition!

There are black Jews, you ignorant sluts. I think they would probably agree that Jews can be hella racist
hey so im gonna take this opportunity to clarify that the post you’re replying to was talking specifically about ashkenazi jews of my acquaintance on this hellsite and was not even close to trying to imply that jews can’t be black (which is obviously not true as you so kindly point out).
the whole point of my post is that the question of how judaism relates to ethnicity and race in the us is way more complicated than ive seen people (on both sides) present it and deserves a more nuanced treatment and this sort of response is quite frankly way out of order given what i said and am saying
Silim! Is there a way to say in Sumerian the command, "Trip over your own feet"? Thank you for all your hard work!
Hmm! This is a tricky one, let me see what I can do.
The verb for “to trip” in Sumerian is the set phrase ngiri zeer, literally meaning “to remove (the) feet” (which I know sounds unpleasant!) The present-tense root of this verb is ngiri zeze.
Commands and bare imperatives are used extremely infrequently in Sumerian; much more common is what is called the precative mood, meaning “may you” or “let it (happen that)”. This is done by conjugating the verb and adding the precative prefix he-, in this instance forming ngiri hebzezen “may you trip.”
To say “over your own feet”, I’d probably use ngiri “feet” in the terminative case. Normally meaning “to” or “towards”, the terminative -sh(e) also means “because of, caused by” in situations like this. “Because of your own feet” would be ngiri-zu-sh “feet + your + terminative case”.
So the final sentence would be Ngirizush ngiri hebzezen! “(May you) trip because of your feet!” Here it is in cuneiform:
Thanks so much for your question!

He’s a 4channer?! B-b-but how does he survive, being a decent person and all
Kind of like how we survive tumblr without turning into doxxing assholes who go after people over ship wars.
He's had all his shots, and he goes outside regularly to experience reality beyond the 20 by 16 inches of his monitor. /salt
But to answer you seriously, apparently not all the boards are filled with monsters and some of them are actually quite forward thinking.

They do actually. They do a lot of the butchering on site, so you can ask for all kinds of things. Including tongue.

Mississippi Market! They’re all in Saint Paul, but Minneapolis has the Seward Community Co-op which I’m told is also good and will be checking out for their spice collection, so I’ll gladly do a price comparison.
