I’m dusting off this tired old tumblr blog to try and get my thoughts into some sort of order whilst I’m on attachment with Magnetic North Theatre. I’m four months into my eighteen month attachment and whilst I’m feeling like i’ve made no progress, I’ve have actually made some progress. So here’s a list of discoveries and things I need to remember. Expect more lists of things and random (not random) images.
- Having completed a Masters in Sustainable Rural Development, I’m at a stage where I have enough knowledge to write a a performance about the themes of rewilding and conservation in Scotland. However, the attachment means I can go beyond this stage and think more deeply about these themes. I don’t have a process for this bit, it’s both overwhelming and liberating.
- Studying a Masters in Sustainable Rural Development, it’s a bit like the matrix, once you see it, you can't unsee it.
- So many Matrix quotes apply to the themes of this attachment. *Note, explore the Matrix.
- I don’t know if I want to write a play or write a score for a performance, or create another Faslane that examines the arguments from different perspectives.
- I like the idea of writing a play.
- I like the idea of not making a solo show.
- The purpose of the attachment isn't to make a show, it’s to integrate my academic learning into my artistic practice.
- I find the topic of conservation and climate change so fucking bleak that I don’t want to have children. Because Mad Max and Terminator really freaked me out a as kid.
- Is a dystopia all we have to look forward to.
- I have strong dislike towards national campaigns asking for poems, letters or stories about nature.
- I have a strong dislike towards #’s that make no sense #beamountain #themountaininme
- I have an issue with the anthropocentric acts of rewilding.
- I like the difficult hard edges of rewilding
- I’m struggling to think long term about this attachment, or indeed about rewilding.
- “take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but time” this quote is attributed to loads of different people including John Muir. This quote really annoys me, to me it reads; ‘disturb a habitat, trample on stuff, let invasive species kill everything over time instead.’
- I still have a lot of people to talk to.
