jer-tan replied to your post: I watched a youtube video on what JRPGs are...
Have you played any Tales of games? Tales of Vesperia is about to be rereleased for PS4. Granted it’s not technically a new game, but it should be good and those games tend to be in more traditional fantasy format.
Oh yeah I saw there was mention of Tales of Vesperia coming to PS4.
However even tho it’s not as bad looking as some of the other games at style coming out next year.... I’m still not feeling it.
But I do agree it’s not as bad as literally everything else I saw and is probably the best looking as far as character designs go :/ I may check it out since at least it’s SOMETHING I can bare with.
I want to give Atelier a little slack as well but... despite Atelier also not being as offensive as others... it’s still not doing it for me either
If anything I would like to try Tales of Symphonia instead once I have enough cash and time (I should play Suikoden II and finist FF9 first as well as beat the true final boss of Persona 4)
honestly I just miss the character design aesthetics for JRPGs we use to get compared to what seems to be every JRPG we get nowadays.
But then again I haven’t played the new Dragon Quest game which, despite it’s usual brand of Middle aged Japanese horney men designing female characters fuckery, does at least have the design down thanks to Toriyama. However I don’t really want to give that game money considering who the composer of its music is.
But at least it LOOKS really good.
I should find a way to buy it 2nd hand or something so I don’t have to give its creators money >_> I know that’s stupid to be stubborn just because of the COMPOSER but..... he is a colossal piece of shit of the highest caliber.
Somebody else also commented that they hope Octopath Traveler starts a trend and I agree. Braverly Default at least got the ball ROLLING< I just hope other Japanese game companies who make fantasy JRPGs start taking notice because apparently every time one of their new “classic” jrpgs sell amazingly well, Squeenix is always so friggen SHOCKED that people still want classic jrpgs. Despite releasing THREE classic jrpgs and ALL of them doing extremely well both financially and critically.
But I do hope it causes more of its kind in terms of art and character design and aesthetic
and less of......... this
