Went on a 1-day trip and as we usually do when we go on excursions, we hit up antique and vintage stores. No ponies this time but I finally splurged and bought this bright birdie after passing her up at an antique store last year. I figured if a whole year went by and no one else wanted her she was meant to be mine. 💕 and there was a 15% off sale so that didn’t hurt.

Yes because an army of software engineers working around the clock, losing sleep, and busting ass till the last minute prevented it from happening.

You mean the one that was fixed through rigorous world wide government action?

One of the root problems of our society is a refusal or inability by media to articulate that all those “it’s gonna be an apocalypse” disasters were not disasters because we collectively did something about them.

The good news is this is actually quite correctable. I maintain my firm belief that we as humans are capable of solving almost all of our problems, when we decide to do so.

And I still think that’s going to happen. I don’t know when or how, but I do know that abandoning hope won’t help bring it about.

And I refuse to let the cynics own a chunk of my heart.

It is... not fabulous... but its still occurring.

“Well?  Has your birthday been satisfactory so far?” Harvey murmured in Aura’s ear as she sighed and relaxed back against his chest, her head resting on his shoulder and her face tilted up.

“Mmhmm.”  She felt loose, warm, and very relaxed, her limbs about as tough as a strand of overcooked pasta.  “It has been… a most… excellent birthday.” The bathwater sloshed as she snuggled closer to him, wriggling her backside and tilting her head to rub her cheek against his.  The old tub was large, but they were both tall and the two of them barely fit in it together. She was wedged fairly tightly, with her back against him, his legs on either side of her and his arms wrapped around her.  Getting out would no doubt be something of an ordeal, something they were both putting off thinking about.

I fear a lot of people learned to take good care of library books as children and instead of internalizing "leave shared community items as you found them as much as possible, because other people will use them too" they internalized "printing and binding a book imbues it with sacred energy and if you dog-ear a mass-market paperback you're desecrating the entire concept of written language"

May I introduce you to my favourite Calvin and Hobbes strip which only got funnier when I got hearing aids.

wait actually i gotta reblog this again i just remembered an additional fun fact. sunday funnies pages were not created equal; some allotted less space than others. to make space? they would literally chop off parts of the comics. this is why many sunday strips have a Big Title Bar at the top, bc that was usually the part that got cut off. comic artists essentially had to account for that a big chunk of their strip was Optional Bonus Material that couldn't be relevant to the plot or punchline of the strip.

bill watterson? HATED this. he was in a constant battle with the presses to keep his strips intact. he eventually won this battle, forcing any paper that wanted to run calvin & hobbes to print the full strip. but in the meantime, you would get protest strips, where the top bar is essential for the comic to make any sense at all.

this? is almost definitely one of those. please picture with me living in a town with one of the newspapers that cuts off the top bar. imagine seeing this comic WITHOUT the top panel.
