I think it would have been really funny if it later on turned out that Jeralt--while he was traveling Fódlan and doing mercenary work--made a habit of making random kids in the villages he visited into his apprentices.

Then, when Leonie is coming up as a mercenary herself, she starts to run into them.

At first she challenges them. She's unwilling to cede her role as "Captain Jeralt's first, best, and ONLY apprentice!"

But eventually, when she becomes the Blade Breaker II and inherits Jeralt's old bar tabs, she sees the wisdom in setting up a franchise.

Anyone who trained under Jeralt as a kid and pays off his bar tabs in an area of Fódlan gets to be Blade Breaker II for that region.

So I was updating the Fódlan timeline & I realized that Leonie met Jeralt much later than I thought

And the story goes that Byleth wasn't there, which means it's highly likely that Byleth was not officially a mercenary yet. But by 1179 in the Prologue of 3Hopes, the Ashen Demon had already been a feared nickname

So what are the chances that Jeralt actually waited until Byleth was 18 to say that, "Kid, time for you to do real business now." =))))))
