consumed once again with dedue/marianne thoughts i think i'm in ot3 territory at this point
consider: big stoic man and petite depressed girl spend far too much time on the garden and feeding the local wildlife, and there would be rumors about the queen being ~unfaithful~ except dedue has such a reputation as absurdly loyal and professional that no one believes he would do that, so they get away with it
also consider: both dedue and marianne are convinced the other understands dimitri in a way they can't and that's not entirely wrong but dimitri has two hands
finally consider: dedue slowly becoming willing to die for marianne not just because she's so important to dimitri or because dimitri sat him down and made him swear to protect his queen first, but because she's soft and gentle and while she can fight it's not really in her nature to reflexively respond that way, so she ends up the one he would shield first while dimitri goes slightly feral on whatever fool tried this
I'm very tempted to try to make my own Dedue scarf, I love the way yours looks (no hate to the printed ones available it just isn't authentic enough in a way that sates me). Would there be any tips/tricks you'd be willing to share before starting? I crochet primarily, but I've knitted things before so i'm not completely in the dark.
Hey!! Thanks for your patience on this ask, I wanted to get you good instructions but I have been super busy. In the end while looking for the color chart I actually found my pattern for the smaller motif (it was on notebook paper) so I decided to just. Write the whole pattern out.
I mentioned this in the post with the photos but to restate here on the pattern, I knitted my scarf using Knit Picks Palette fingering weight yarn (50g, 100% Peruvian highland wool), which is very warm and toasty in my New England winters. To do this pattern the way I did it you will need to buy 8 balls in Marine Heather, 1 ball in Almond, and 1 ball in Garnet Heather. I used 2.5mm circular needles with a long cable to manage the width of the fabric but use whatever you like to get the gauge; gauge should be 8 stitches across and 10 stitches tall per inch.
I Included the lengths of blue stockinette I used to be proportional to my 5'2" height, but you can knit more or less of this as you like to account for the height of the wearer. Dedue has two different sizes of the motif, a larger one on the tail down his back and a smaller one on the wrapped part, so there are two different colorwork patterns. Only one of each motif is visible on the model, but included a second small repeat for visual interest on a human person. I also start from the straight edge visible on the Hopes model and end on the jagged edge hanging down the back of the Houses model.
Also credit to @eaglehorn who sent me the chart I went off of for the larger motif, which I have translated to a pattern here.

Stockinette about 9# Marine Heather
At this point I starter free-forming the bind-off with my heart to achieve the jagged edge on the scarf. Ultimately the longest tail was about 27" from the start of the Marine Heather section; refer to the photos in the above linked post for the edge I ended up with but do whatever you want here to end the scarf! Wet block; I used foam mats and blocking wire for blocking this.
30: What characters should have more support options and who should have been their support options?
Dedue! I wish he had a few more out of house supports! (same can be said for Hubert/lords, but Dedue has the most supports that I’ve thought about and really wanted to see!)
Here is a few ideas for his supports:
- Ignatz: I would have loved to see Ignatz help Dedue in preserving Duscar culture. At the start, Dedue would not want to talk about it. I don’t think Ignatz would understand why it is a tough subject for Dedue. I think they would build understanding with each other throughout the support, and Ignatz would understand the context with Duscar and the kingdom. At the end, Dedue would trust Ignatz enough (and after spending 5 years in Duscar) to share his memories, which Ignatz would compile into a book.
- Bernadetta: I would love to see a gardening support between these two. Maybe Bernadetta found some rare flower seeds and is trying to grow them, but isn’t having any luck. Dedue would recognize them as native to Duscar and they would grow them together in the greenhouse!
- Leonie: I think that these two would get along in some aspects, but I also think Leonie would be frustrated by Dedue’s relationship with Dimitri as someone who is headstrong and forges her own path. However, I think that after learning more about Dedue’s situation, she would understand that Dedue, as someone from Duscar and a commoner, is trying to do what is best for his people. Leonie also wants to help her village and repay them too. However, I would love to see her influence Dedue to follow his own path as well and not feel as bound to Dimitri. I can see them being great friends in the end.
- Marianne: DEDUE AND DORTE MEET UP… I think Dorte is very well trained by Marianne, so I think Marianne introducing Dorte to Dedue would be a great support. Dedue thinks that animals don’t like him, but it would be so awesome to see Marianne and Dorte prove this wrong. Dedue would be scared of Dorte, but Dorte is super gentle and I think Marianne would help Dedue ride him. I think they have a lot in common, being quiet people. They also push people away in fear. Dedue would think Marianne shouldn’t be around him as he is from Duscar, while Marianne thinks Dedue shouldn’t be around her due to her crest. I would love to see them in a paired ending too. I think Dedue would try and court her by bringing her like bird seed and flowers 😭🥹❤️❤️

Punch-Out Wii team: “Sure, just don’t make it too obvious”
Please don’t comment with 3H spoilers or I’ll cry
Two things that make this even funnier:
1) Macho is 27. Dedue is 25. BOTH of them look like they’re in their 50s.
2) These two could not be more different in terms of personality. I think if Dedue even just wore Macho’s clothes he’d never want to be seen in public again.
