Reading Recommendation #12

This is just pure cuteness. 1⁄8 teaspoon of angst, but even that feels sweet. This story feels like cotton candy and a hot chocolate. I slept too little last night, read it this morning, and it was just the pick-me-up I didn't know I needed.

I can't really say too much about a 2k fic without basically just retelling the plot, but I can say the author masterfully wields language like a scalpel, if a scalpel could be soft and cozy. It feels like there's not a word too much or too little, which is damn hard to pull off, and the characterisations are just right on the money. You've got cozy Jackson family, worried-but-grounded-and-assured Percy, and reliable Jason that you can lean on – ten out of ten blue cookies, just an absolute delight to read.

Definitively a recommendation!

(And I can totally relate to posting a challenge fic on the last possible day, been there did that as well xD)

Juuuuuuuust in time, on the last day (it's the 18th already over here), I squeezed out another one-shot for @jercy-events Jercy Solstice 2025! This one's for the day 2 prompt, "Holiday Traditions".

‘Percy!’ Frank jumped up and pulled the newcomer into a bear hug. ‘I missed you too’, Percy grinned. ‘What are we blowing up?’ ‘Christmas crackers’, Jason explained. ‘A souvenir from the old world.’ ‘Wicked. Let me try one?’ ‘Me too! Me too!’ Leo launched himself between them with a devious grin. ‘I hope you brought enough for everyone, Superman!’

This is really just crack and guys being bi, with a splash of Christmas for flavouring. And I guess some light Jason angst snuck in there, because I am apparently incapable of writing him without it.

‘Damn.’ Jason shook his head in disbelief. ‘Feels like everyone’s gotten their lives together… and all I’m doing is chasing down third-rate gods and asking what colour walls they want.’ ‘You’ll get there.’ Percy bumped their shoulders together. ‘Don’t sweat it, you’ve got the rest of your life. At some point you’re gonna run out of gods, right?’

If you like guys with sexuality crises, characters trapped in embarrassing situations, and copious amounts of death threats before a kiss, this is for you!

It takes a lot of coaxing to get out of Percy what's wrong, and Jason considers himself something of an expert at it at this point, but it wasn't necessary today. He's heard the story enough times to put it together himself. He just wanted to make Percy happy; he should be able to make his boyfriend happy. But these dumplings.

Dumplings are officially the bane of Jason's existence.

Or, Percy misses out on a holiday tradition because the boys are still stuck at NRU. Jason is next to hopeless in the kitchen, but gods damn it, he's going to make today special.
