no but he was so lonely. you ever think about how for the first twelve years of his life, the boy whose fatal flaw is loyalty, who would sacrifice the world for the people he loves, had no one to love? no one but his mom? what are you supposed to do when you can’t satisfy something so deeply engrained in your bones? he had nowhere else to put it. he has so much inside of him, this wellspring of compulsion strong enough to be his literal fatal flaw, and he had nowhere to let it out. no one to be loyal to. no friends, because he is broken, because he is weird, because there is something inside of him that has been made wrong that keeps other kids away. he has his mom, and he loves her so fiercely, and that cannot be understated. but even in that, there is loneliness, particularly in the early moments we see of them together: when he was younger, he could not fathom why she kept trying to “get rid” of him. in the present time, he feels like all he does is disappoint her, over and over and over again. like he can never get it right for her. this is loneliness. and then she is gone too.

and it’s written all over his face in the first two episodes. when he gets kicked out of school, thinking the only friend he’s ever had just betrayed him, he gives his mom that heartbroken smile at the cabin and it doesn’t reach his eyes at all. he is so defeated by it, so hurt, and it colors every single one of their interactions. when he first gets to camp, he doesn’t want chiron to introduce him to the other campers. he is so subdued. he ducks his head, averts his eyes. he doesn’t know anything else. he does not want to meet these people and still be alone. do you ever think about that?

Nothing fancy, but Baby It’s Cold Outside just came on and I can’t get Jercy out my head.

Jason’s from California and lived in San Francisco basically his whole life. Being not-American, I always sort of assume West Coast is just hot all the time like California, but fact checking has proven me wrong, and it gets mild: San Francisco does get cool and can feel cold, especially in winter (Dec-Feb) with lows around 45-50°F (7-10°C) and highs in the mid-50s (13-14°C).

But not as cold as New York on the East Coast: January and February are typically the coldest, with average lows often below freezing (around -2°C to 1°C or 28°F to 34°F) and highs around 0°C to 4°C (32°F to 39°F). So New York is proper cold with a regular chance of snow in winter, and San Fran is a lot more comfortable with any decent amount of snow being particularly rare, they apparently mostly just get rain.

Previously (given my misconceptions about San Fran being toastier than it is in winter), I’ve always headcanoned that Jason wasn’t a big fan of the cold. Snow was probably a nice experience, but in general whether he’s cheerful or not about feeling chilly, I don’t think he’s actually up to it much. He’d start shivering before Percy, he’d get sniffly before Percy, and whether he’s a whiny little complainer (affectionate) about it or not, he’d ask to go back inside long before Percy.

So when the song came on, the only thing in my head was Jason being at Percy’s for a visit in New York over Christmas, and it’s getting late and he’s trying to be polite and get going. Percy wants him to stay, of course, and starts using the weather outside to blackmail him - playfully - into staying; “But you hate the cold. Look at that snowstorm. What if Khione gets you? Come and sit your ass down.”

“I really can’t stay.” Jason edging toward the door, reluctantly.

“But baby it’s cold outside.” Percy hanging onto his hand.

“I’ve got to go away.” Jason halfheartedly tugging at his hand.

“But baby it’s cold outside.” Full on pouting.

Dumplings are officially the bane of Jason's existence.

Or, Percy misses out on a holiday tradition because the boys are still stuck at NRU. Jason is next to hopeless in the kitchen, but gods damn it, he's going to make today special.

currently laying in bed thinking about jercy. im daydreaming about them making cupcakes.

percy inviting jason over to bake cupcakes for sally's birthday. percy guiding jason with his years of watching (and sometimes being allowed to gently assist) sally bake. jason getting freaked out and accidentally setting the mixer too high so blue batter splatters everywhere, cue 15 minutes of panic and attempts at stabilizing an office chair so percy can reach the batter that got on the ceiling, eventually resulting in percy being held up like simba until it FINALLY comes off.

they forget the sprinkles for cupcakes and since paul is at work they literally have to RUN to the store and hope and pray they don't run into any monsters. they're 90% sure that the cashier was a snake lady but they're also pretty sure she was just as shocked to see them as they were her and they manage to rush out of the store before she attacked them. they narrowly dodge becoming the targets for yet another nationwide manhunt, by the grace of the GODS.

even when they FINALLY finish their cupcakes and sally comes home, they very quickly notice they forgot to check the ratings on the recipe, which are dirt low because according to Everyone Ever these cupcakes suck ASS. its a bit too dry and it maybe tastes a little bit like playdough but fuck it, they worked HARD for this and sally's happy so they're happy.

also, funnier, at least three different gods intercepting to try and give them quests and the two blatantly ignoring them, denying them, or literally not noticing them. a mysterious figure tries to interrupt them at the store with "ah, percy jackson, if it isn't the great hero" and percy and jason shove past them with vague shouts of either apologies or insults as they run for the baking aisle.
