“I don’t think it did.” She whispers, head back-glowing with gold. The small sliver of sunshine streaming high above them catches her at the perfect angle. She is queen, crowned by light itself.
“Are you sure?” A deep voice rings across the stone, “You know I never miss.”
“I know, my sweet.” She nods towards the slumped form in the middle of the room. “But I just think you didn’t want to hit him.”
A protest starts to fall from beautiful lips before quiet surrounds them. Air softly falling to the floor as the room awaits the next words. A heavy sigh, a hand scraping through long brown curls, fingers brushing along the curve of a spine ever so gently.
“He’s just so... pretty.”
“I know,” The sympathy in her voice tastes like candied apples. Cracking and sticky as you bite into it. “It’s not your fault. I would have done the same thing.”
The figure in the middle shifts slightly, not enough to raise the dust but enough to capture eagle eyes.
“Oh you’re awake.” She says brightly.
A groan is all he can give out, hands still bound against the cold marbled column behind him. Head aching enough it makes him want to slice it off.
“The blade,” Jason lifts his chin up, golden fingers against sharp angled jaw. “It clearly didn't pierce your heart, did it?”
“No, no it didn't.” Reyna kneels down next to him, smiling so widely.
“How unfortunate.” Percy croaks.
“I suppose you’ll have to stay with us till you’re healed then.” The blond king.
“I’d rather be dead.” He spits, green eyes bright with anger.
The queen tilts her head, warm brown eyes looking into his own anger. “That can also be arranged King Jackson. But first you must heal.”
“What is the point if you’re going to kill me anyway?”
“Everything is in balance.” The King looks at him, eyes of blue stone. Unyielding. “It would not be a fair fight if you were injured when you took on your death.”
Percy Jackson looks between them, head pushed up by a thumb, shoulders aching from the awkward position. He sees this all-fair queen and this well-balanced king, he sees and sees and sees… he sees madness in their eyes.
And he laughs. And the sound echoes around the room like symphony. And the gleam in his own eyes matches theirs perfectly.
Three rulers and no sanity. Oh what a tea-party they'll have. Oh what a bloodbath they'll indulge in. Oh what a kingdom they'll ruin.

Jason snuggles further into the sheets, body curling around a curved back, hand finding warm arm. He hears a soft sigh, smiles and tries to get closer to the comfort.
He can feel the gentle rays of the early morning sun already creepy onto their duvets, warming his exposed toes.
Somewhere deep in the recesses of his mind he notes that it’s probably time for them to get up. But gods he could stay here forever. On this quiet spring morning, in this bed, warm and comfortable and safe beyond thought.
The arm he had been resting on moves away and he reaches for it blindly trying to bring the person it’s attached to back. A soft laugh is the only reply before his fingers are gently squeezed and then dropped into the now empty space where a warm body once lay.
“Come back,” He croaks out, not bothering to open his eyes.
The body he’s curled around moves slightly, brings themself closer to him, frowning in their sleep at the cold air coming from their empty side.
“I have to get ready for my meeting, cielo,” The reply.
“Just a little longer,” He grumbles, making the concentrated effort to crack open an eye.
As he suspects the sun is just starting to make its appearance, cresting slowly over the concrete and glass that grows taller every day. He can about make out the shapes of the room, sleep and the lack of glasses, blurring his vision.
“Yea,” A tired voice next to him mumbles, “Just ten minutes, Rey.”
Reyna laughs, as she pads across the floor towards them. She leans down, brown eyes already awake and glistening happily. She kisses him on the forehead, and then bends down, swipes black curls off a peaceful face.
“Good morning.”
“Are you getting in?” Percy turns his face up, eyes still closed, meets her for a kiss. “I’m cold.” He’s pouting and it’s the cutest thing Jason has ever seen.
He and Reyna share a look, love bleeding like citrus in summer across their space.
“No princesa,” She’s grinning at him and Jason is grinning at her and Percy looks completely put out by this turn of events. “I have an important meeting this morning.”
“Mhm,” Their fiancé groans, “But me and my cold body are much more important.”
“Any other day I would agree.” She’s back to moving towards the bathroom, voice fading in and out as she busies herself. “But today I have to concentrate on this meeting so that we can fund the library and keep it open for a millennia still.” Her pajamas have been tossed into the laundry basket along with Jason’s stray sock and a jersey Percy was wearing yesterday. “Besides,” She turns on the shower, sticks her head out the door, “Jase can warm you up just fine.”
“I want both of you.” They can hear he’s more awake now but it’s still adorable how soft and deep his voice is, how much he’s sulking.
“We can cuddle the whole weekend, mi princesa,” She promises, and then she’s disappeared into the bathroom and Jason is snuggling back into bed, trying to get cosy once more.
“I hope her meeting goes well,” He hears Percy’s mumble.
“Me too angel.” He nuzzles his nose into his fiancés neck, eyes closing again.
But Mr Jackson is up, and that means…
“If those old crusty ass white men even dare say no to her I’m going to crush their windpipes with my bare hands and then flood the entire ocean into their lungs.”
Jason intertwines their fingers, brushes a thumb over soft skin.
“And I will gladly help you, but for now let’s just hope that everything goes smoothly.”
They’re just about dozing off again when they hear Reyna’s heels clacking against the wooden floor.
With half-awake minds, less awake bodies they both turn themselves and sit up. Watching, enraptured as she puts on earrings— two small golden hoops— the necklace they bought her for her twenty third birthday— delicate and small and resting on her collarbones—, her watch— a gift from her sister.
And gods, she looks… invigorating.
P O W E R F U L.
He wants to take a thousand pictures.
“They’re not going to know what hit them!” Percy smiles at her.
“He’s right,” Jason nods, staring, unable and unwilling to look away.
She smiles at them, turns to their full length mirror. “You think?”
The suit sits on her like it could not have been made for anyone else. A deep plum purple, with well tailored shoulder pads, and gorgeous gold button detail on the jacket and the pants. She pours into the suit, like liquid filling a container, shaping to it, it holding her.
He doesn’t have words that will describe her elegance. ‘Perfect’ keeps coming to mind but it doesn’t do her justice.
“You look…” Even saying it out loud cannot inspire something good enough.
“You look captivating.” Percy supplies.
All Jason can do is nod, hands squeezing the ones they’re entwined with in amazement.
“Okay,” Reyna looks at them, eyes softening automatically. “Wish me luck!”
“You don’t need it,” He leans up, kisses her, “But good luck all the same!”
“Kill it my love.” Percy wraps their arms around her neck, peppers her in kisses that make her giggle. “And afterwards come back home so we can spend time unwrapping this delicious suit.”
“You’re taking me to dinner tonight Percy Jackson.” She pokes his arm, eyebrow raised in mock disapproval.
“We can have dessert before,” Is their fiancé’s sly reply.
They’re all still laughing when the door clicks shut.
“I can never think straight when she’s in the suits.” The blonde mumbles.
Percy pulls them both back into bed, burying them under covers.
“That’s probably because you aren’t straight, love.” He grins cheekily.
Jason gives him a blank stare, and then can’t help but giggle. “That was terrible, Pers! Better go back to sleep and maybe when you wake you’ll have better jokes.”
“Unlikely,” He pretends to sulk, pout firmly back in place. Jason wants to take a picture, take two, a hundred. “Reyna would have laughed.”
“She indulges you.”
That produces a snort. “Says you.”
“Maybe we’re just suckers for your pretty face,” He kisses his nose. Likes the way it scrunches slightly, before green eyes turn bright, like emeralds caught in sunshine.
“Nah,” Percy shakes his head, smile wide. “That’s just love.”
