do you still read obey me fics recently? i kinda need some suggestions (accounts or fics) here on tumblr 😓😓
This might sound a little weird, but I don't actually read that much Obey Me fanfiction. It's easier for my hyperfixation-addled brain to keep Fandoms I Write For and Fandoms I Like to Read separate. There's not much overlap between the two. I have almost 11k bookmarks on AO3 and only 77 of those are for OM, and most were made before I started writing for the game myself. lol
That being said, I have lots of recs to offer! I've met a lot of talented writers on Tumblr because of the game and I'm happy to give them a boost here. Some of them inspired me to post my own writing so credit where credit's due. If you check them out, be sure to leave nice comments/reblogs for the posts you enjoy. Some of these blogs might be archives now, or the writer might be active in other fandoms rather than OM these days, but acknowledgement for their previous works will probably be appreciated regardless.
Soo like would the demon brothers including the other demon characters kill for mc? 👻
It's not a question of will they kill for you, but rather, who do they have to kill? Because of course they would.
If it's some nobody lesser demon, chances are they can do the deed and get away with it without anyone knowing (or caring) about it after. Higher-ranking demons within the nobility are more of a challenge - the social and personal consequences are much higher, assuming the original offense is a minor infraction and not something that would warrant a formal punishment of the court. If it's something serious, it's better to let Diavolo take care of it (and trust when he says that he will).
Angels are tricky to deal with. Outright killing one would probably anger Diavolo too much, let alone what Michael's reaction would be. Punishments for Celestial Realm denizens who offend or hurt you (and by extension, the demons that care for you) are non-lethal and have to be carried out with some level of care and subtlety. They can't arouse too much suspicion or anger from the other realms. Fortunately, angels aren't likely to do anything too grievous towards you anyway. (The angels that know you best have their own methods of dealing with their angelic brothers or sisters that need a little enlightenment when it comes to your happiness and well-being.)
When it comes to deadly retribution, humans are probably the easiest for your demon companions to dispose of. With their frail bodies and fondness for sin and reckless behaviour, humans die unexpectedly all the time. So long as they're careful not to leave any evidence of their involvement behind, some poor human's unexpected demise is coincidental at best. Your pet demon isn't likely to be held accountable for it either - assuming Solomon hasn't taken care of the miscreant first, that is.
Of course, killing is such a vague concept, and each of your demonic friends has their own preferences when it comes to getting their hands a little bloody for you.
(warnings: mentions of violence/murder/torture, unhinged behaviour, demons being demons, etc.)
RECKLESS AND IMPULSIVE: It might surprise you how quick they respond to aggression or insults towards you and the level of violence they're capable of. Their love for you is so strong, they can't help it. Perhaps it's better to beg forgiveness than to ask permission, because they know you're too kind for your own good. Letting some no-good demon get away with hurting you, even the tiniest bit, is unthinkable. It doesn't really matter what you say, because once the switch flips, it's too late to stop them. The demon is already dead at their feet before anyone else nearby even realizes what happened.
— Mammon, Satan, Beelzebub
CAREFUL AND CALCULATED: A bitter insult, some derogatory comments on Devilgram, obnoxious criticisms heard amongst the chatter of RAD's busy hallways - it doesn't take much to anger them when it comes to defending you. You're so precious, their uniquely imperfect little human master, and you deserve better than that. They'll take their time, they'll make their plans, they'll consider their options carefully. When the deed is done, they'll make sure every last trace of blood is gone from their hands and their teeth before they see you again. It would be a shame to tarnish you with the filth of the unworthy.
— Leviathan, Asmodeus, Belphegor, Mephistopheles
MERCILESS AND UNTOUCHABLE: There's nothing that matters more than your safety and happiness. They're the ones you can turn to when you feel like you can't turn to anyone else. You can confide in them because they're strong. Their power and influence is unmatched, and no matter what troubles you, they'll see that it's taken care of. They used to scare you before, but now there's comfort in the firm hand clasping your shoulder when they lead you to your door, or the warm cup of tea they press into your hands, or the princely smile that promises you never have to worry so long as they're close. You can rest easy at night knowing whatever threatens your well-being is taken care of, even if you don't realize it. The dungeons beneath the Demon Lord's Castle that house the wicked, and the dark deeds carried out against them in your name, are burdens they gladly bear.
hi jessss, been missing ur works so badly!! i’ve been checking your page literally daily to see if you’ve posted something new. i hope that you’ve been feeling better as well 🫶 always take your time when it comes to grief, it’s a seriously terrible journey.
Thank you for the kind words, anon. It means a lot that I still get random messages, comments and reblogs from people who find their way here despite my inactivity lately. 🥹
I'll be honest and admit that I'm starting to miss writing and I've been thinking about this blog lately. Mostly the OCs. The new game doesn't interest me at all but I'm drawn to OC angst and that could be fun to dabble with again.
I'm not rushing into anything right now though. The five-month anniversary is next week and it's something I have to brace myself for. Like you said, grief is like a difficult journey. I try to keep myself busy with work and therapy and taking care of Baldwin. I'm slowly reconnecting with old hobbies like gaming too. The fact that I'm thinking about the OCs at all, let alone writing anything, is a comforting sign that those parts of me still exist despite how awful the past few months have been.
Hi, surgery anon here, Thank you for posting that story . It really helped post surgery. Especially now that I’ve learned I have to have another one. Are you able to one day do a follow up or something? Thank you. I hope you still write, your fics are so good and I love rereading them.
I'm sorry to hear that you need another surgery. One of my GI treatments required two surgeries so I understand the frustration of having to wait even longer to be "fixed" and feel better.
I'm glad you liked the first part of surgery!MC's story and I appreciate you and everyone else who comes back here to re-read or share things they enjoy.
Unfortunately you might have to wait a while before I post anything new. My spouse passed away last month and since then it's taking everything I have just to get through each day. The energy and motivation to do anything creative is beyond my reach right now.
Two days ago, I stumbled across one of your Solomon posts, and ever since, I've been snooping and devouring your masterlists. Perhaps sorry for the like-spam aha
I just wanted to come by and say your writing is masterful and I've been thoroughly enjoying everything! Your characterisation is top-notch, and even your OCs have piqued my interest. (I will admit I was surprised to see Karasu in some lineups until I saw he'd been oc-fied)
I've also seen your posts about your interest in writing for OM is waning, its unfortunate. But I hope you'll get your passion back one way or another
May luck and joy come your way in the new year! -🍀
Sorry it's taken so long to respond, things have been...well, not great honestly. But it's always heart-warming to receive such kind words about my writing, especially when I haven't posted anything in a while, and I really appreciate it.
My relationship with OM is tricky right now. I was lukewarm about the concept of I Do before the app even launched. I didn't participate in the kickstarter and based on my equally lukewarm feelings towards LADS (which I assumed I Do was going to imitate in a lot of ways, but badly), I didn't have high hopes. I'm glad there's a new app for fans to explore and I hope the game continues to grow and improve for the fans that like it.
That being said, I'm not sure I'll dive into it personally although I've asked friends to send me screenshots of things that might be relevant to my specific interests (like the hint of Mephisto's demon form and mentions of my best birb Karasu). But in terms of the story (stories?) I've heard for the various LIs (and the lack of side/undateables/Michael), I think I'm happier continuing to read fanfic and focus on my own world building. It's easier than about what the new game might add or change lorewise to what we already know. I will give I Do props for making Nightbringer look polished and coherent in comparison, a feat I never thought possible.
As for my own writing, I have a lot of WIPs and new story ideas for OM that I would like to finish and it's not my goal to completely abandon them. As for my plans to continue writing, I'm waiting until I have the time and energy to pick it up back again. Grief is a difficult and terrible thing to live with. An unfortunate side effect of grief is that a lot of my hobbies have fallen to the wayside. Eventually, I think it'll slowly get easier to get back into writing and everything else I used to enjoy doing.
i don’t really mind the new room designs but it feels so weird to not have them go to RAD in the new game…maybe i’m just too attached to that silly school and learning magic (i am also kind of scared of the new game not having interaction between all the characters and only focusing on the love interest/mc dynamic)
i’m just too attached to that silly school and learning magic
I totally agree with you, the magical school trope is so much fun. I think TWST is a really good example of how this brand of story setting can be done well. (ArTw was a good game for this trope too, rip.) Solmare could do so much with the OM world if they expanded on places like RAD to help the Devildom feel more vibrant and alive. It's hilarious to me that hell's most powerful demons are basically long-term students at a fancy school but they could do so much more with that idea. Sometimes it feels like the OM cast are the only characters that exist which makes the world (well, all three worlds) feel very small. RAD's educational setting would be a great way to slowly add lore to game too. please give me all the lore crumbs
i am also kind of scared of the new game not having interaction between all the characters and only focusing on the love interest/mc dynamic
I think OM's assortment of characters has a lot of platonic and found family relationship dynamics that make it really interesting to play, even when the story isn't focused on romantic elements with the MC. The characters have those established connections to each other which means lots of drama and comedy in addition to the romantic subplot with MC.
In Nightbringer, it felt like the game shifted away from heavy romance and innuendo to give us narrative beats that were more wholesome and appealing to a younger fan base. It felt like OM was going through an identity crisis which made it feel juvenile and incoherent at times.
Now we have the new app coming and I'm hoping for something closer in tone to OG, but I'm also worried its going to imitate too much of LADS to be enjoyable to actually play. Plus, like you said, the characters should have interactions and relationships separate from their relationship with MC. If romance with MC overshadows everything else, it might make the game disappointing or boring to play for new reasons than the previous one.
I'm curious- do you no longer write fics for obey me?
Nah, since the fandom is in a bit of a lull as it is, I’m mostly taking a bit of a break from OM while we wait and see what the new game is like. I’m learning from the mistakes of the early Nightbringer days when I started writing things only to have the game story go in completely different direction than what I was expecting so my early NB fics couldn’t hold up. lol
A lot of my pending asks are OC or world building-related, which I know has a niche audience. I actually don’t get many about the canon cast which…I guess isn’t all that surprising, considering where my OM focus has been.
I didn’t have as much time off work this summer as I expected so part of my self-care is disconnecting from social media to help me decompress. I’m living my best life in my read/play/watch more, write less era. Getting hooked on new fandoms (or catching up on old ones) is always fun. I’m not sure if I’m going to write for any of those but that sort of writing would be posted somewhere else if I did. 😂
Funny how Solmare just keeps abandoning projects and shoved Solomon so much in our faces in Nightbringer until what feels like half the fandom was going feral for some senior discount up their ass - And now they announced a new project, only the brothers are for sure gonna be in it and most importantly now we're gonna have to finance that as well apparently.
They really haven't gotten the memo that "have your cake and eat it too" doesn't work like that, have they?
I would be happier if I knew their new game was launching with the full cast of demon brothers and the established dateable characters. Barbatos is my #1 and not being able to choose him right from the start is a huge disappointment.
It was weird seeing the announcement posts trickling in last night though. I was starting to feel the hype until I saw the kickstarter mention, and then things took a weird turn. The old school gamer in me doesn't like the idea of giving money for things in development with no guarantee of what the end result will be. I understand indie developers do this because they don't have the resources like established gaming corporations do. I do not consider Solmare an indie developer which is why my standards for them are much higher.
Don't get me wrong though. It's not that I'm not willing to spend money on games, because I am. If I try a new mobile game and like it, I'll buy the "new game" bundles as an early support boost to the devs, and I'll buy merch later on if something really interests me. That being said, I'm not comfortable giving money to something I haven't seen or played yet. Both OM games have done something in the past to sour my experience, and that's not a great track record for a company asking for financial support to launch a third game we have limited information about.
As someone that spent a lot of money on OG and then reduced spending in NB, I'm not sold on Solmare's promises just yet. I'm not feeling generous enough to fund any sort of kickstarter initiative when there's no guarantee they've learned the lessons from OG and NB Obey Me. My hope is that the game exceeds my expectations, but right now, I am approaching this announcement with a very healthy dose of skepticism until we have more details and see what the actual gameplay looks like.
