Faceless (1988)
I like to approach series and filmographies with completionist tendencies. And I felt like that's served me well so far with Jean Rollin, though I've gotten to the stretch of his career where I'm prolly gonna have to skip over his less "artistic" works. But.....I'm pretty sure starting from the beginning with Jess Franco is a bad use of my time. I'm gonna have to get to him in my vampire film-viewing eventually, but is there a good one of his flicks to start with? Just as an expectation-setter?

I’ve been bingeing 70s Spanish B-movie director Jess Franco’s movies and they’re all so fucking bad but I can’t stop watching. Sloppy ass camera work, creepy perverted zooms, voyeurism but boring asf, horrible English dubs, nonexistent storylines, just so disastrous, lazy, and incompetent, but the visuals are immaculate. Franco makes Jean Rollin look like a genius. It made me realize that Italian B-movie directors like Bava, Fulci, and Martino were actually very competent technically even if the writing could be absurd at times. Even Joe D’Amato was running a tighter production front. Franco just did whatever tf he wanted, including making his own gf/wife Lina Romay film actual corn while watching it like a cuckold, or telling Soledad Miranda to get naked in She Killed In Ecstasy so he could film a stupid pervy torture scene with her. That being said, Franco actually made a handful of decent movies and even the shitty ones look visually beautiful because he chose stunning actresses, backdrops, outfits, and even furniture. The vision was there even though the brain cells seemed to have been fried by acid.
