I personally love this quote the most because Tessa told him to say something in mandarin to her for the very first time and the first thing Jem says is “you’re beautiful”. He could’ve said it in english before this or said something else but he decided to tell Tessa that she is beautiful in mandarin and it’s just beautiful. It shows how much Jem really means it since Jem liked Tessa then when he said it, and how special ‘beautiful’ will forever be to these two lovebirds also seen in After The Bridge. Everything mandarin spoken between these two is honestly just beautiful because I speak mandarin myself so it’s not only something that is special to them, but something that is special to me too.
