Okay, so I don’t tend post much about Horror fiction. It’s a genre I love to death, but at the same time I am very picky about what stories I read/Listen too.
I’ve been a huge fan of the NoSleep podcast for a couple of years now. They take scary stories from Reddit’s NoSleep forum and turn them into full Audio productions. Season five has just ended, and holy frick did it ever go out with a bang. The story they produced for the finale is two or so hours of deliciously atmospheric survival horror. My favorite kind of it. The sound editing, the voice acting, the writing, oh man. I felt like I was Ruth, the main character, they painted such a vivid picture in my minds eye. I was listening to it in the dark and have never wished for someone to cling on to more. What an adrenaline rush. Or more like a drawn out surprisingly consistent two hour adrenaline buzz.
It was never gory or cheap in its scares. It just takes you into the middle of the woods and leaves you there, in the cold, and the dark, hungry and isolated, while the howling of the Whistlers rises with the wind, and entraps you as absolutely as any cage...
... Ah, sorry. Got a bit carried away. Yes, for better or worse we've all seen these tropes before. But listening to this production is such a visceral experience.
You've got to give it a go! Definitely in the dark, preferably with someone to squeeze, if you can find a willing spoopy buddy.
Click to listen to The Whistlers.
Be aware there is some scattered strong language, mentions of suicidal thoughts, and two extremely non graphic, practically not there sex scenes.
