Love Songs

Brave New World. 

I chose the song Just a Fool by Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton as there love song. The song talks about how they "had there heart set on you" and how they are irrationally in love with someone. I think this relates because both Lenina and John have feeling's for one another that are irrational in their society. The main lyric that is repeated is I'm just a fool for you which I think relates entirely to John because knowing what society she's from and that she'll never love him in the way he want's he still tries and fantasizes about her as his Juliet. 

The Handmaids Tale.

I chose the song It Doesn't Hurt by Kate Thompson because it is a devastatingly sad song about having to be with someone. The lyricist says "It doesn't hurt unless I walk, I don't feel any pain unless I try to talk. I don't even cry, unless I open my eyes." When talking about what she wants to say to the man she was with. I think this relates because OfFred is only with the commander because she has to be. She also say's "I know you'd feel better, If i was over it" which mirrors The commander when he tells OfFred that he thinks this is a better life and that he want's her to be okay with her life as it is now.

Shakespeare

"There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so"(2.2.Hamlet)

In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare Hamlet say's this to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern when talking about all the misfortunes that have recently happened to him.

I like this quote because it separates the situations and your reaction to it. Positivity is a relative thing in today's world because everyone has so much working against them. I've learned through experience that the happiest people I know generally don't have it any easier than I do and usually have it much worse. I tried to observe what it was that they did differently to enjoy life more and I came to find it was how they reacted to situations and how they let situations affect them. I think Shakespeare nails this observation I had right on the head and I like it so much because this is the motto I try to shape my life after now.

Blade Runner Dystopic Element

Within the movie blade runner there are strong dystopic elements present. One of the most basic ones are extrapolation. The movie takes the idea of cloning and projects it beyond the bounds of an idea. In the movie cloning is possible and it becomes a reality with a new set of ideas and principles attached to it. The clones in the movie aren't regarded as people and are used as means of spare body parts to real humans. This takes the idea of equality ad what that would mean in a world where there are originals and copies.

Ethical Question

  You are a Christian woman and have been in a religious marriage with your husband for 15 years. He approaches you on your 16th wedding anniversary asking if you would be interested in entering a polygamist marriage. He already has two women whom he wants to join into your marriage. How do you feel about this ?
