“To fast ships, faster ships, and defying death.” - Jessika Pava 💫💫💫 Continuing my Asians in Star Wars portraits, here is Resistance pilot Jessika “Testor” Pava! She is a member of Poe Dameron’s elite Black Squadron & flew with him in the mission to destroy Starkiller Base. She’s also known as “The Great Destroyer” by astromechs because of her penchant for getting her droids blown up 😅. She’s a loyal friend, deft pilot, and just the type of person you’d think would be one of Poe’s friends. When she agrees to fight in the gladiator death arenas of Rattatak for a chance to recruit much needed help for the Resistance post-Crait, Poe notes that Jess & Black Squadron are full of hotheads who deserve each other- himself included! And while we didn’t see much of Jess in the live-action movies, I’m glad we got more of her in the ancillary materials as the kind of hotshot pilot that is revered in speculative fiction & action movies and a role usually reserved for men. 💫💫💫 Even though the 1st & only time we see Jess Pava in the movies is during THE FORCE AWAKENS, I wanted to feature her bc she felt like a sign of the beginning of a more diverse galaxy far, far away. She is also played by Asian British actress Jessica Henwick of whom it has been revealed has originally auditioned for the role of Rey.
