halzek for I took NyQuil instead of DayQuil and I’m about to pass out? (I’ve done that before... passed out in some random profs classroom who I didn’t know and scared the shit out of him. Oops)
It was one of the rare few days were the Intelligence Unit did not have to be in the field and were currently catching up on the stacks of paperwork they still had left over from previous cases. In other words, it was torture. At least for one Officer Adam Ruzek.
He groaned as he looked down at his paperwork, sighing in defeat as he closed the file in front of him. His eyes were drooping almost every few seconds and with the lack of concentration, he just wouldn’t be able to get anything done. That much he knew.
It didn’t help that he was already coming down with a cold. Once a year when winter first hits, he always comes down with some sort of sickness. Now that he was a fully into Intelligence, he wasn’t going to take the day off. He hadn’t seen one other member of the Unit take a sick day unless they were forced to by Voight.
Jay mostly. He was probably the most stubborn out of them all.
God he was tired. Why was he so tired? He had taken DayQuil in hopes of keeping the symptoms down but maybe his body was just exhausted. Adam let out another sound as a hand landed on his upper back. Without even looking, he knew it was Jay.
“You okay?” Jay muttered, leaning down so only Adam could hear him.
The blonde only nodded. “Yearly cold. I’ll be fine.”
Jay frowned at him but didn’t push further. Instead the detective choose to take a seat next to him. “Done already?” Adam questioned, leaning his suddenly very heavy head against the palm of his hand.
“Yeah, finished twenty minutes ago.” Jay replied. “You want some coffee?”
Adam could only nod, his eyes drooping more as the exhaustion was fully taken effect of his body. Even with a cold, he was normally never this tired. It was freaking him out if he had to be honest. Jay got back up from the chair and disappeared into the break room where Hailey was already starting another pot.
Adam sighed as he turned back to the files at his desk. His eyes blurred as he read over the words. “Man, are you okay?” Kevin’s voice practically made him jump out of his chair.
Adam looked up to him with wide eyes and nodded. “Just a cold. I took DayQuil for it.” He stated, motioning to the bottle of cold medicine on his desk. Kevin stared at the bottle for a moment before he broke out into a fit of laughter. Causing Adam to go into a state of confusion. “What?”
“Ruzek, that’s NyQuil not DayQuil.” Kevin stated after he finally managed to get control of himself. “No wonder you look like the living dead.”
Adam peered over to the bottle, grabbing ahold of it and turning it over. Directly on the bottle said NYQUIL. His mouth dropped open as he looked back to Kevin again, only for the other man to go into another fit. “You know, NyQuil is blue and DayQuil is orange right?” Kevin teased, poking at Adam’s cheek.
The blonde muttered under his breath as Jay finally walked over with a steaming cup of coffee in his hand and handed it over to the younger man. Jay looked between the two, his eyebrow cocked up. “Did I miss something?”
Kevin snickered for a second, motioning to the bottle in Adam’s hand. “I took NyQuil instead of DayQuil and now I’m about to pass out.” The blonde stated before Kevin could tease him any further.
Jay cracked a grin before whispering he would be back once more. Adam watched him as the detective popped into Voight’s office and exchanged a few words with the man before turning on his heel. Jay snatched up his jacket off of the back of his chair before heading back over to Adam’s desk. The detective motioned for him to get up with an amused smile on his face. “Let’s go sleeping beauty.”
Adam felt his face flush for a second but complied with Jay’s demands. “If I have to stay in bed, will you stay with me?” Adam said, a small pout on his face as the two cops got to Jay’s truck. Jay rolled his eyes but his smile never left his face.
“C’mon, let’s get you home.”
Adam must of fallen asleep on the ride back to their shared apartment because he remembered leaving the district but the next thing he knew was Jay shaking his shoulder to stir him awake.
Adam grumbled for a moment before getting out of the car and all but letting Jay practically carry him inside. Once Jay managed to get the door unlocked, he ushered the half asleep blonde into the apartment and ushered him towards the bedroom. Adam pouted and gave a small whine and pulled Jay with him. “Come with me.”
Jay gave a fond smile and followed behind him until Adam fell back onto the bed, pulling the older man down with him. “Adam, you need to get out of your clothes.”
Adam rolled over, pulling Jay completely down onto the bed and gave a soft sigh. “Clothes later. Sleep now.”
