About AO3

I've seen some pretty terrible stuff about AO3 lately, and loving the site, did my research. When needed, I asked and looked for sources, but as you'll see I couldn't find many varied sources, mainly the same person posting things about it multiple times and vague forum articles.

1. "Problematic" Works

Yes you do have to let people ship and read and write whatever they want, even if it's incest, rape, pedophilias & co. Why? Because that's why fiction is there babes, to explore things that are terrible IRL. Whether that's for coping or any other reasons, it's not hurting anyone if it's well tagged, so leave them alone. Saying they have no right and should rot for shipping something that makes you uncomfortable is, indeed, harrassment, sorry hun.

Also, an archive would be much less effective with censorship: as long as real people aren't hurt, it's fine.

2. Racism

The source people gave me for this was a single fanlore article, which stayed vague.

To me it fits under Graphic Depictions of Violence, as psychological violence is still graphic violence to me. However, I can see the case for separating it like rape/non-con. Still, you can filter it via tags.

3. Anti Palestine

For this point, I've got two sources, all linking to the same person. I'm sorry, but if that's your only case study, we're lacking sources. But let's look at it anyways, because it's still a source, and it might not be a one off/justified.

I've been given a link to a thrid source that leads to a dead ghiost blog, with the same username as the other to sources:

Let it be know that I do not want people, to go after them, hence why I'm not showing their new tumblr url from that blog's bio. It, however, leads to the blog that made the second source.

So, all the same person. Now let's address the "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" part. I see lots of people use it to mean "Free Palestine", but that's not the only thing it means/implies. That particular catchphrase implies shoving israeli people out of the territory entirely. Now the israeli governement has commited war crimes and should be held accountable, but civilians did not commit nor endorse genocide. Some do, of course, there's bad people everywhere, but that doesn't mean we should punish all of them for it. ANd depriving them of their home isn't the same as wanting peace for both people. Sure, genocide is worse than displacement. That doesn't mean we should push for a "lesser evil".

There is a difference between wanting the genocide to end and wanting one of the people to leave their home. Hence why, as you can see in the screens, AO3 was fine with "Free Palestine", but not "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free"

Lil rant on crosstagging becausec it's getting old

Crosstagging is so frustrating. Tags are already flodded by bots, people crosstagging "because then you'll see this" are just making it worse. First, the people seeing it won't change their mind over a post hating on them (because let's be honest, I haven't seen a single post like this actually trying to help, it's just insults).

You're just flooding spaces that aren't yours. Using the wrong tags purposefully for reach is considered spamming, as it makes the tag less usable/unusable. And that is against tumblr's terms of service & guidelines.
