Remember the faithfulness of God

‘They refused to listen and failed to remember the miracles you performed among them. They became stiff-necked and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery. But you are a forgiven God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not desert them,...’ Nehemiah 9:17

The whole paragraph in Nehemiah 9 speaks about God’s faithfulness and compassion. But this verse stood out for me, especially those three words ‘failed to remember.’ They failed to remember the goodness and faithfulness of God in their lives. The Israelites found themselves desobeying, rebelling against God again and again. They took God’s goodness for granted. They did not keep His amazing love in their hearts and minds. We see later in the whole passage that their failure of remembering brought them back to slavery. (Nehemiah 9:36-37) While God wanted them free, they turned away from Him thinking that there was more, better than God their Lord.

We need to remember the beautiful things God did in our lives. We need to remember his faithfulness, love, compassion, goodness towards us. Even in our wickedness He remains faithful. (Nehemiah 9:33) Even in our rebellion He keeps loving us and saving us from our sins.

He is worthy to be loved with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. No one can compare to His goodness. He frees us. He rescues us. He loves us so deeply. We need to remember of our past miracles to help us to fight the next battle. He will never fail to be who He says He is. He is the great I AM.

Also, while I was reading Nehemiah 9, one song came to mind: Hindsight by Hillsong Young & Free. The lyrics say:

‘I don’t need to know what the future says 'Cause if the past could talk it would tell me this My God isn’t finished yet If He did it before He can do it again So I’ll trust Him with what comes next For the God I know is known for faithfulness.’

There is so much truth in that song and it describes perfectly the passage I read today.

God is good and His love for us will never fail.

I would never go to the shelter and say:

"I want to return this cat to the shelter because it scratched my dress. I want my money back"

Jesus would never go the cross and say:

"I want to return this child to hell because it sinned. I want my blood back"

You have everything in Jesus

Right now, I am listening to the album of Watoto Choir while I am writing this new post. If you haven't heard about this choir before I would recommend you to stop everything you are doing and give it a listen. This choir is formed of orphan children with different stories. This is amazing how you can feel hope and joy in each song. I am almost in tears. I definitely can feel God in their voices and I can't help feeling humbled. I tend to complain for anything :"not enough money", "still single", "not successful"... And then I listen to these children who grew up without parents. I realize how blessed I am. I have both of my parents. I've never been without food or drink. I always had enough in each area of my life. To be honest, the reason why I am not seeing myself moving forward is because of my laziness and complaints. In a previous post I wrote about creating something beautiful with what you have. That is exactly what Watoto Choir are doing ! Out of brokeness they created something beautiful. Out of their pain they bring joy, love and hope to people like you and me. Out of their childhood without parents they discovered a father in God and dedicated their life to sing praise songs to the One who welcomed them and saved them from loneliness and misery. There is so much passion in their songs and I love how they are taking their broken background to create something beautiful for the glory of God. I can imagine Jesus smiling and crying with joy when He watches these children worshipping and praising Him for being their Father. They used to be orphans and now they are children of God. This is their new identity. They have found what was missing in their life : a Parent. Maybe you are feeling empty in an area in your life. Well God is the answer to your emptiness and will fill it. Jesus died so He could make us whole. Come back to where you belong. You belong in God's arms. You belong to Him. He is the One who restores. He is the One who heals. He is the One who consoles the broken. "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Psalm 147:3 In God's glory only.
